Kingfisher is a hotel and restaurant beautifully located on the crescent-shaped beach of Unawatuna in the Southern Coast of Sri Lanka. It’s origins run back to late 90’s. We have a designed lounge bar where you can relax and sip a cocktail and we offer a western and eastern menu at the restaurent. All our products are fresh and from the market everyday. We also have daily and weekly events: Every saturday night, we organise a party with dj's, music in live.
Good food although very little vegetarian options but I guess what do you expect from a restaurant on the beach. More then made up for by the location. Sitting right on the beach with sand between your toes and the very attentive staff. Only issue is we were there with a big group and wanted to order and pay for our drinks at the bar as some people were drinking cocktails and others only water. We were told it was not possible all drinks had to go on the bill. Made for a confusing end of night when it seem it could have been easy.

This hotel was hard to find, off the main road, but it was well worth looking for. There are nice rooms, good sized, with balconies. There are two pools to choose from. Breakfast is included and consist of your choice of eggs or pancakes, plus a large plate of fresh fruit for each person. The staff was friendly and having dinner there is a must. The food was some of the best we had on a month long trip. We stayed too nights and would gladly return. The only hassel with the place was getting the free parking for our coach, that they promised. As soon as I showed the email they sent me promising me that, it was found at a nearby hotel.

Helpful staff and great seafood here. We were not house guests but they treated us very well and arranged lounges on the beach, and brought food and tea and drinks to us. We visited twice for lunch. The fish in particular was very tasty and the staff were excellent. It is clean, modern and from what we could see I imagine the rooms would be great also.

The restaurant is listed in the latest edition of Lonely Planet and Rough Guide. No website as far as I know.
Jina's restaurant is one of the few restaurants in town that actually cater to vegan and vegetarians only.
The location is right next to the main road behind the beach and the interior featyres a large bookshelf.
The staff is incredibly friendly, and the food is very good! I had a vegetarian burrito with guacamole, and I can only recommend it.
Would definitely go again if returning to Unawatuna.

This place has a nice, energetic vibe but the food quality is not reflective of the almost 5 star rating. The appetizers were the worst (flavorless), the fish curry was ok and the shisha was very weak and the coals were bad.Service is friendly enough.
$:shisha: US$10, entree, appetizer and cocktail will set you back an average of US$12.CASH only

If you're not in a hurry, this is a great place to eat local, authentic food. We had to wait for about an hour for our food, but it was worth waiting for. I had the 4 type curry and rice and each curry was delicious. The restaurant is pretty basic, but the food makes up for it & the service was very good. It's extremely good value too!
Would definitely go back.

a small family run restaurant on the beach, offering the best in western cuisine for those who need a bit of familiarity in there diet whilst in Asia. all created by Chef Gary(UK) and his team ensuring 100% satisfaction by using only hand picked local ingredients and preparing all food cooked to order.
Koko's is restaurant/bar on the beach which appears to be run by an ex-Geordie with friendly local staff. It concentrates mainly on Fish and Chips, burgers and other meals with chips, but it also serves kebabs and Mexican food. We had chicken and beef kebabs on pitta bread with yogurt and salad which were delicious. The Caipirinha cocktails to follow were a bit disappointing though.

We rented to sunbeds for the day. The beds are ok but Morning exceptional in comparisson to the other places at the beach. However their food and drinks were all good; the juices, the iced coffee, the fruit platter and later at the night our diner! We would definitely spent our day here again!

After 14 days in Sri Lanka, we wanted to change from the traditionnal rice&curry so we ordered 2 pizza's! They were delicious! And the view on the beach is also very pleasant.
It's a bit more expensive then what we were used to, but the food was worth the price (around 1600rps/ pizza).

This place was just lovely.
We spent 5 nights here.
Pros:
Hot and cold shower.
Very comfortable bed, surrounded by well fitted mosquito net (none got in!!!)
Huge patio with 2 chairs and a built in lounge chair.
Best wifi we experienced in Sri Lanka.
Restaurant on site. We had banana chocolate pancakes here and a key lime pie, all very good. Modern coffee machine also in situ.
Plug adaptor provided (Sri Lanka uses a somewhat rare plug).
Mosquito plugs provided.
Friendly staff.
Transport service available.
3500 a night (non AC room).
Clean bathroom area.
Safe in the room.
What could be improved:
Our room was not tidied for the 5 nights we were here. The sink could have done with a clean, bins emptying and a fresh bed sheet would have been nice.
There are lots of mosquitos in around the patio area / room (still this is natural and cannot be helped).
We had a fan room and nothing really dried - towels etc remained damp and only got changed once.
1 plug socket behind the bed which was hard to get to due to the fitted mozzie net.
A twin bed option would have been preferred for us rather than a double.
I would highly recommend staying here. We were going to stay for 3 nights but stayed for 5. Very comfortable / easy with welcoming staff.
