My spouse and I tried some "touristic" restaurants we finally received the advise to try the Fischkiste in Niendorf: The fish is definitely the best as it comes straight from the fishing harbor just opposite the restaurant. Menu is focusing mainly on local fish dishes but the quality, freshness and the preparation is fantastic!
A few observations:
- Prices are compared to other restaurants higher but still reasonable. At noon special rates are available and than it is really good money spend!
- Restaurant looks a bit "old fashioned" but services is extremely nice and welcoming.
- If you are in the area you can have a nice walk or even better a bicycle tour from Timmendorfer Strand to Travemünde (cliffs) and combine it with a stop in the restaurant.
- In case of some spare capacity there is the well known Café "Strandvilla am Hafen" which is would be cherry on the cream.

VISIT US AND BE AMAZED! Have you ever been on a real sailing ship? When you enter our restaurant in picturesque Niendorf for the first time, you will immediately think you are inside a sailing vessel from days gone by. Surrounded by polished oak, petrified wood and authentic maritime decorations, you will enjoy a relaxing stay at JohannsenS and will want to return.
We had dinner in Johanssens on a windy September evening. The overall setup of the restaurant made us feel warm at once. Meat and fish dishes were typically German and all those we had were tasty and very good. Service was efficient and friendly. Thanks a lot for your review!?

We went to the weinwirtschaft on a thursday night during the busy easter holidays period and had been sceptical because of the generally poor reviews on trip advisor.we had, however, booked before Reading the reviews and so decided to go all the same.we received a warm welcome and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful.the food was excellent,as was the wine we chose.prices were reasonable and good value for money.the only negative was that there were only about 10 of us in the restaurant all evening.apart from that,a faultless meal!

Our experience at Fisherman's was good despite bad reviewes that are reported from other contributors. This restaurant is not a luxury place, but is not even ugly. Apart from this, food and service are what we should rate. Well, the delicious salmon steak was perfectly prepared, and the combination with a light gorgonzola sauce was absolutely unexpected but worth to be tested. The service was also prompt and the waiter smiling and sympathetic.

Fischspezialitäten
We had Dorschfilet and Patato with shrimps and sourcream. It was okay but not the quality the almost best restaurant of Travemünde should have. (2 of 34).
The fishfilet was in many small pieces and the shrimppatatoe too greasy.
The personnel was okay and friendly. Nice view on the harbour from the quay.

In 2012, Buddenbrooks was awarded its second Michelin star; and let me make this known right from the beginning: I believe the stars to be absolutely well earned – for what a fabulous experience!
With just four tables for 2 and two tables for 4, there is not room for many guests – albeit the place could easily hold more tables. For there was more than plenty space, a fact that I appreciate very much. In addition to a enjoying a more intimate dinner, this also allowed me to carry on a conversation with my girl friend without disturbing the other guests, and vice versa. Not for one minute could one be in doubt that the quality of the entire experience is paramount here.
It is a 6-course menu. However, as always in such fantastic restaurants, you receive a multitude of appetizers, and – when all is said and done – you will have consumed no less than 14 courses. The upshot of this luckily meant an added bonus for me. For, even before the actual menu took its beginning, my girlfriend had already eaten her full, thus leaving all the more for me.
As to taste, all courses represent a profusion of various flavours all coming together into a perfectly unique experience and, in combination with the visual impression, there only one word that denotes every facet of what we were exposed to that evening, namely “Weltklasse”!
The wine menu comprised the entire Europe – albeit focusing on wine from South Germany; and, like the food, every wine was better than the one preceding it. And, not having it in my heart to leave such excellent wine behind; I enjoyed each and every one of them to the very last drop. And, sadly, I have to admit that I got more than just a wee tipsy.
After dinner, we even had the honour to shake the hand of the chef himself – the much famed German cook, Christian Scharrer, thus making a perfect ending of an amazing and absolutely unforgettable evening.
I shall be more than happy to make the trip from Denmark to Germany, just to eat here once again.

I visited the Restaurant on a wonderful day, but even then the sea wind becomes chilly in the evenings. To keep its customers cosy, the Gabbiano uses outdoor seats forming a wall against wind and by-walkers. So the Seating is really enjoyable. The food is italian style, though on a high level. There are pizze, but their other food is of first class. We had thin sliced octopus meat as entre (Carpacio), a wonderful lamb filet and great liver. The waitress was helpful and punctual, the drinks cold and worth their prices.

At the restaurant "Grand 1904" there is a regional and native cuisine with seasonal impact at advanced level. Our executive chef Oliver Pfahler uses only high class products and trys to reinterpret variegated flavors classic dishes . The choice of products and repertoire of the wine cellar Villa Mare specialized at german wines. Our Lübecker Rotspon is a particular suggestion of the region from the Weinmanufaktur von Oven in cultivation of France.
We had a lovely dinner here!
The service minded staff brought us to a nice table overlooking the restaurant. The meny was presented to us and we were pleased with the alternatives they offered.
We chose a set meny with wines to match - and we were not let down! Everything was Perfect - presented to us in a nice manner from the waiter and the sommelier.
Tasty and wonderfully prepared it became a prefect evening!
The surroundings and the buidling is really worth a visit in itself!
We reccomend it and surely will Return!

While I only spent 4 days in Luebeck we visited the Cafe three times. The cake and other items from the menu as well as the coffee were great. The location next to the water with the ships passing by made it perfect to sit and relax and just watch the time go by. Could not be a more beautiful spot to sit while eating my favourite dish the waffles with cherries and ice cream. The waffles were made with Marzipan and you should try them when around the area.
