Vibo Valentia (Italian: [ˈviːbo vaˈlɛntsja] ( listen)) is a city and comune (municipality) in the Calabria region of southern Italy, near the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is the capital of the province of Vibo Valentia, and is an agricultural, commercial and tourist center (the most famous places nearby are Tropea, Ricadi and Pizzo). There are also several large manufacturing industries, including the tuna district of Maierato. Very important for the local economy is Vibo Marina's harbour.

The archeological museum in the castle at Vibo Valentia is well worth a detour. There is a most impressive collection of antiquities from local excavations with a very informative overview of the Greek, Roman and medieval background of this area. A very important region of Magna Grecia. An excellent display, beautifully designed. We were treated to a tour by one of the museum's archaeologists, and found the experience to be one that we would highly recommend to anyone interested in the origins of Calabria. The view from the castle ramparts was impressive on a cloudy day. On a clear day, almost unbelievably, you can see from Ischia to Mt. Etna. Nice shop.

Worth few steps up to reach the top of the hill and castle itself. We arrived late and were alone in whole castle (except staff of course :-). Museum is not big but provides good lesson in local history and walk is well organized. Take few pics from walls surrounding castle!

Small church located near the old town of Tropea.
I visited this church in the evening after dinner, even though the time was still open, what a little 'unusual for a church, at that time there were few tourists and I was able to visit it calmly and take some photos. There is nothing exceptional inside, perhaps a short visit of a few minutes is enough.
