The clock tower of Sighisoarais the grand dame of the city, reigning tall and proud from atop a central hill. Founded by Transylvanian Saxons during the 12th century, Sighisoara is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and features well-preserved medieval stone streets and structures. Visit fortified churches, climb the famed Scara Şcolarilor covered staircase, and get goosebumps at the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler, the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s terrifying creature, Count Dracula.

Sighisoara is a magical medieval city. The historic centre is full of period buildings and wonderful atmosphere. The presence of the Vlad Dracula house adds to the mystery but the whole place is redolent with old world charm. The narrow streets and the scholar's stairs are all part of what could be a movie set of some tale of medieval Europe. Every part is oozing with history and is marvellously photogenic. It is one of those places to just sit and soak up the atmosphere.

The four small corner turrets on top of the tower symbolized the judicial autonomy of the Town Council, which could apply, if necessary, the death penalty.
After a fire in 1676 lwhen the town's gunpowder deposits located in the Tailors' Tower exploded, Austrian artists rebuilt the roof of the tower in its present baroque style and in 1894, colorful tiles were added.
The tower has two plate clocks one facing the citedal and the other facing the lower town, This intricate two-plate clock has been working continuously since the Middle Ages.
There is fee to climb up the challenging stairs .

The church itself has some nice frescos that they are trying to restore, and you can go down into the crypt if you want.
The best part was the graveyard behind the castle. I’d recommend climbing up the covered steps, but walking down thru the graveyard.

These steps were constructed in the 17th century to protect children climbing to the school at the top f the hill. The school is still in use by the local Saxon, German speaking community.
I know of no other such arcaded staircase of this age, so worth seeing. If you clim to the top, you can explore the outside of the school, and the Saxon graveyard.

Teos is easy to find and we had a wonderful experience with paulincia (brandy) tasting by Teo. The cellar and recipes have been in his family for generations

Spread over several floors ascending fairly tight stairs in places.
The museum is a welcome break on each level. The exhibits are nice to look at however
hardly any of the information is in english (accept for the do not touch signs) but you get the gist.
The reward is the views at the top, absolutely awesome.
In our opinion worth the 15lei entry fee for the views alone with the museum chucked in on the side.

The Taylors' Tower is not far away from that of the Shoemakers', but is very different in style as it looks quite imposing and without any artistic features.
Same with the others towers in Sighisoara, this one still brings a particular charm that only in a medieval Citadel can be found.

Another beautifully restored tower within the Citadel. It was rebuilt in 1676, after a a big fire within the Citadel, destroyed most of the buildings. Town archives were stored here after the tower lost its military role. an awesome place for photos of a medieval tower.

It may have the oldest Oak Tree in Transylvania, it is peaceful and tranquil, but nothing outstanding.
