We did a walking tour of Karauli with a local guide; it's a great way of getting immersed in the local culture. The Palace has a fascinating history and you can see the great lengths they are going to with restoration. It's worth going to the top as the view is a just reward.

Timangarh fort , almost 45 kms from Karauli, is a historical place in dense Forests. Founded by Raja Timan Pal, the eldest son of famous warrior Raja Vijay Pal of Bayana, has multiple attractions for visitors. Intricate carved statues, Pillars, Chhatris and insriptions can be found scattered every where. Fort is overlooking the famous Sagar talab, which have according to a mythological tale "Paras stone" in it. Entrance is almost hidden till you reaches just in front of it for the safety point view of those days. The fort is almost robbed for its carved treasure for centuries,by Ghori, Aibek, Tughlaks and finally By Babar till medieval periods. When Akbar bestowed it back to the Raja Gopal Das , his most favored mansabdar, later on it was it was forgotten property , covered in dense foliage. It again came to lime light when the Art lovers found its carved treasure post independance, and the most unfortunate robbery started involving local poor people. Still a lot of treasure is remain there to experience the once upon a times gr endure. Fort is under Rajasthan State Archaeological department. but no care is done. Visitors should well prepared to walk among the shrubs, scattered ruins and a fear of wild animals. I advise to visit in groups, well prepared with snacks and enough drinking water, walking sticks and a mini axe can help a lot. How to reach :Almost 45 kms from Karauli in Eastren Rajasthan, one have to hire taxi or personal vehicle, no public transport is available. Plan a whole day tour via Masalpur and visit enroute the Beetal farms [Pan ke bareje]. Stay... Karauli have Circuit house and few small budget hotels.

Kalyanji Temple

Reviewed By fional943 - Ballarat, Australia

Visited Kalyanji Temple as an optional part of an organised tour.
The local worshipers made us very welcome, given there was a big Hindu Festival in swing and people had travelled from the neighbouring villages.
Lots of drumming and loud music, some chanting and ritualised activities were in full swing, but remained somewhat mysterious.
The temple itself was impressive and vast and it was fascinating to see such busy and active worship, where most temple visits feature architecture and religious adornments.

Karauli Cattle Fair

Reviewed By EssJayWhy - Witney, United Kingdom

This would be quite interesting but we were unlucky as a big storm the night before had washed it out and was too muddy to continue. Our guide said that they have camels and horses for sale here as well as the cattle and it's an important local fair. Set in a large expanse of mud in Karauli!
