Riding Tours South Iceland take special pleasure in showing visitors the Icelandic unique Wilderness together with the horse. We offer horseback riding experience from an hours tour to longer trekking tours. Our horse trips can be suited for all riders, beginners to experienced ones who would like to go riding in Iceland. Sydra-Langholt is situated in Hrunamannahreppur, 50 km from Selfoss.
We did a one hour ride with 4 teenagers and 2 adults. It was FANTASTIC and they provided some warm cloth to put under the helmets. Rain pants were available, but it was WARM AND SUNNY for us! Horses were wonderful and well trained, guide was very friendly and checked in with us to see how we were. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Go early, the sun rising was amazing along the river.

The Secret Lagoon natural pool is located in the village of Fludir in the Golden Circle area. The historical surroundings have been kept natural and simple for a unique and authentic experience. The pool is surrounded by several hot Springs, including a little geyser, providing the pool with fresh warm water, maintaining a temperature of 38-40 °C throughout the year. In the winter the northern lights can often be seen in the area and what better way to experience the light show than relaxing in the warm water surrounded by the steam from the earth? The Lagoon offers brand new facilities next the hot spring with showers, bar and eating area. Food is not served daily but can be arranged for groups when arranged in advance. Feel free to contact the staff for any inquiries or for a group deal.
Easy to get to at the end of the 'Golden Circle' after Gulfoss (about 30 minute drive) .... it's a no frills location but also not heavily commercialised nor excessively costly......
The website suggests you must pre-book - we turned up 'on spec' at about 5.30pm last Thursday and were welcomed with a smile and advised of course we can come in (obviously, if they're busy, and you don't book, you won't get in!)
You enter into a simple reception area, which has one cash till for entrance into the pool and drinks (non alcoholic as well as beer, cider and wine)
TOP TIP: If you forget your swimming costume or towel - don't panic! They rent them out and I rented one - it was brand new, straight out of the packet!
Changing facilities are open (male and female separate obviously) , and the Icelanders really do expect you to shower naked before you go in...... my advice is don't panic - remember you are never going to see these people again - and they all have the same issues with their own bodies - so just get in there and do as the Icelanders do!
The pool itself is about the size of a 50m pool (on an irregular shape) with some bits much hotter than others. Yes, there is some slime around the edges - this is a natural pool after all..... but grab a couple of floats from the box as you come out of the changing room, grab a drink from reception and just bob about in the hot water - bliss!

After so many geysers and lakes and Waterfalls and hot Springs, you really need to see something else as well to be able to still fully enjoy the Icelandic nature.
The Skalholt Cathedral is a great place to stop. The former religious and cultural capital of Iceland (for several centuries!), Skalholt doesn't exist anymore as a settlement now, so you'll only see the Cathedral here, along with some houses nearby that host restaurant and tourist facilities and, of course, the beautiful Icelandic fields.
Even though the building is relatively new, it's very pretty and a good photo spot. You can actually go inside the church, which I advise you to, as the altar is decorated quite uniquely, with a modern religious painting. From the church you can also visit the underground, which is organized as a small museum about the history of Skalholt and the old Cathedral. From there you can exit via a small underground tunnel leading you to one side of the church. On the other side of the church there is a replica of an old Icelandic grass-rooftop church, also worth seeing.
A great, peaceful place to stop on your Golden Circle tour! Spend 30 minutes here.

Our main emphasis is helping people enjoy Icelandic nature and experience sights and attractions that are difficult to reach. We offer guided tours that have been developed according to our costumers' needs and wishes. We offer the chance to experience beautiful and unique sites that few people have the opportunity to see. We mainly operate in the highlands of south Iceland
I don't even know where to begin here...
This was our second trip to this beautiful country, had seen all of the touristy attractions, and craved an experience slightly more low key than a bus. On a whim, we came across this posting for Secret Local. Manni answered our email very quickly and consulted with us on what we wanted to see. It was a highly personalized experience and he was a fantastic communicator. Flash forward to the morning of the trip: pickup was at our apartment in Reykjavík at 9AM and we woke up late...at 10:30AM. I was losing my mind and somehow managed to dial his number thinking that he would be outraged that we were 1.5 hours late. The voice that picked up on the other line was the exact opposite. He was so extremely kind and reassured us to take our time and to not be hard on ourselves in our panic mode. He had camped out in the bakery next door and waited for us for an extended period of time as he didn't want us to miss out on the day ahead. Completely classy and extremely professional. What I later found out is that we were the only people on the tour! Essentially for the price of one of those all day tours, we had a local guide and experienced superjeep driver for a day and we couldn't have been happier.
We took off to the South near his hometown and into the highlands. The day was spent with him taking us through places that he takes his family. Waterfalls in the back of private farms, hikes through beautiful gorges, and breathtaking scenery the entire day through. Manni did everything he could to make the most of the daylight hours because he knew it was important to us. He was also an extremely experienced and responsible guide. He understood the limits of the terrain, the vehicle and ourselves and took extra precautions to preserve the area around us. On all potions of our trip, there were no others. Literally just us having fun together with a new friend in pristine beauty. This is the very essence of what Secret Local is all about. They have 3 vehicles, but refuse to take on more than 2 tours per day. They don't put groups together that don't know each other. You aren't simply a warm body in a seat. You are a companion on a trip. Manni and his friends built this business when they grew weary of contracting for larger tourism companies that chose to run their business for overwhelming profit. This is a labor of pride and love and I absolutely recommend that you book with them. After the end of the day, I didn't hesitate booking my last day trip with them again so I'll have part 2 of my review soon!

If you’re staying in Fluidir and want a more economical choice for dinner than spending $40-$60pp US from the few in town venues, we highly recommend an unusual, but simply marvelous alternative, the Kaffi-Sel restaurant that is only a few miles from Fluidir Village center and open until 9:30 pm. The restaurant portion of a golf course, it offers a good family menu including pizza (yes, pizza in Iceland). Recommended to us by the owner of a new bistro in town, which itself is only open until 4pm, Kaffi-Sel was clean, comfortable, quiet, and the pizzas we enjoyed were tasty and used fresh dough made locally and brought to the restaurant daily. You order at the counter and they bring your orders to your table. The hostess was friendly and told us they get all their meats and vegetables locally sourced – and the taste and freshness proved that. The pizzas we enjoyed were mushroom and bacon and, separately, pepperoni with hot green peppers and fresh white pepper (each costing about US equivalent $12 - $15 ). Our daughter thoroughly enjoyed her homemade carrot curry soup and opted for langostinos on her salad (for only $6 Krona more) and fresh breads for all. So, while Kaffi-Sel’s name and description was not listed as a restaurant on TA (but it was listed as a golf course) in Fludir, it can be found on LonelyPlanet and BeIceland.is websites. We definitely highly recommend considering Kaffi-Sel while in Fludir, especially following a dip into the nearby Secret Lagoon. It was a great way to cap off an even better day in this area of Iceland.

kurlproject Iceland is a small Icelandic clothing brand, all designed and produced in Iceland by the tailor and owner Erna Odinsdottir. All garments are made out of natural fibers and most of all the icelandic wool. At a visit to kurlproject Iceland you get to the heart of the production because the place is an open one, both a small shop and a workplace. Notice that the location is only about 100 meters away from the Secret Lagoon.
Ganz kleines herziges Geschäft mit sehr toller netter begabter Besitzerin die sehr schöne exquisite Kleider aus Baumwolle und Islandwolle selber näht und herstellt
