The water always seems warmer here.
The beach is shallow which makes it safe but still has sufficient waves for the boogie board.
The small sand dunes have been attacked a bit from the recent storms and high tide comes right up to them now.
Good car park and clean toilets at the Surf Club end.

The cycleway around the estuary provides a great bike trip for all ages ( as well as being a walkway). Mainly along flat concrete paths the cycleway is an awesome example of urban soft adventure, that is easy, and has many differing vantage points to view the surrounding area. Depending on how you approach it, it can take between 45 minues to an hour or so to do, and close enough to the many cafes in Orewa central to make a great half day experience.

well, a last minute diversion walk with a friend, instead of the usual trek up, down, around Orewa Beach; which is always lovely.
A pleasant and relatively easy trek, took a couple of the routes - lookout? you are kidding. Still pleasant and good company; then sadly ended at Kensington Park-what horror. Glad to make our way out of that jungle.

We live local to this area and the Orewa Lookout is still one of our favourite places to gasp at the wonders of New Zealand and the beautiful landscape it has to offer. It is a hike up from the beach to the lookout (approx. 10 mins from the Northern end) but is easily reached by car and there's enough room to park about 5 vehicles for a quick lookout. It is a stunning location.

Discovered this gem on a recent trip to Silverdale with a large group. The enthusiastic volunteers provided a ready source of information as we looked through the various buildings containing well displayed exhibits that revived many childhood memories. The small craft shop was soon depleted of its collection of jams with their old-time needleworked covers, plus other handicrafts, and we all thoroughly enjoyed the delicious morning tea spread - quite delightful.

When you are in Orewa, north of Auckland, bike hire is a great activity. Explore the little town and its typical kiwi style suburbs, ride along and around the estuary and along the Orewa Beach. And Orewa is flat, totally flat with no difficult hills to climb. So you not even require an electric bike. With about $20 per hour and a very friendly service you should be fully satisfied.
