The Old Town of Heceg Novi was founded about 6 Ceturies ago by Bosnian King Tvrtko I Kotromanikc. It had a tumultnous history of wars & upheavals. There is good mix of history and culture. The town is surrounded by walls built during XIV to XIX century. The trademark of Old Town are the stairs, that are everywhere.

The most attractive and the most beautiful natural creation of this kind, in the area of the entire Mediterranean. The grotto is located in the Lustica Peninsula, its sea level surface is 100 square meters, and the interior is round-shaped, with the ceiling shaped as vault.
Visited with a big group in October - we were the only ones till shortly after 2 small boats turned up however it wasn't crowded at all (I imagine this place being very popular in season). Pretty cave, quite small, good for swimming otherwise you might spend less entertaining time on a boat waiting for swimmers to get back. Lovely blue shade of water.

The medieval orthodox monastery complex situated next to the city, on a hill in the lush Mediterranean vegetation. It is composed of the Great Church, the Small Church and the Temple of Saint Sava, which was built, according to belief, by Saint Sava in the 13th century.
The Savina Monastery is just off of the coastal highway south of Herceg Novi and entering the grounds feels like you are stepping back 200+ years. Admission is free (there is a small charge to enter their museum) and you will be required to cover up your legs/bare shoulders with the provided garments. You can enter the two churches and explore the compact grounds. There are fabulous views into the bay (even better ones from the short hike up to the upper chapel) and there's a store selling all types of souvenirs and religious artefacts. When we visited (on a July weekday afternoon) there was wine tasting (1.50 euro) of the monastery's locally produced wines. They were quite good and we ended up purchasing a bottle of their Cabernet Sauvignon (10 euros), All you need is 20 minutes to visit.

Known also as the City Tower, it is one of the symbols of Herceg Novi. It is situated in the western part of the Old Town, and its main feature is the clock, which was replaced with an electric one in the mid-nineties of the last century.

A great visit, really interesting. Shame there is no signage to advise what all the rooms are etc. The rubbish bins were overflowing. Really sad that the Montenegrins have no idea how to treasure or market their own history. Accessible only by boat. Great views from the top.

I don't know how many times we walked the length of the Promenade in a week, but it was a lot!! A lovely stroll along the seafront whatever time of day or night you visit. And great for fitbit wearers, you don't realise how far you're walking as the views are so pretty and there are so many restaurants, etc, to stop at on the way. Love it!

Destroyed several times in the devastating earthquakes and battles, and finally tumbled into the sea by the catastrophic earthquake in 1979, today only the ruins of the walls remind of its presence. It is also known under the name Mezaluna, built on the walls of the former lower town.
