Most travelers will fight crowds year round to enjoy many of China's ancestral treasures in major cities like Beijing and Shanghai, but if you are in Gaozhou City, near Maoming, this is one beautiful temple you can visit in almost solitary enjoyment. Richly appointed and created with the same care all temples in China are, you can visit and meditate on the gorgeous, intricate architecture, and even purchase Buddhist prayer items such as jade bracelets. During our visit we purchased (for 20 yuan) prayer messages to put in the temple - they stay for one year. Off the beaten track but still in a city - if you go, stay at the Letian Hotel, luxury at a fraction of the cost in the larger cities.
