Dating back over one thousand years, Chimay Castle has been the stage of many major events in European history. The 23 counts, princes and dukes who have reigned over the Principality without disruption since 1437 were often major players in these conflicts. You can enjoy visiting the Castle and meeting with its past and present inhabitants thanks to a new, interactive multimedia tour and exciting 3D show. Other delights include a programme ofmusical events, held at the Castle Theatre.
We where a bit dissapointed by the village of Chimay. The chateau was nothing special too. When we wanted to visit it this first sunday of april; it was already closed at 15:00 hrs.. Wish we stayed longer in France this day.

We enjoyed the Espace Chimay. Good history of the beer. Admission included a tasting at the restaurant. We had lunch as well. Good was great. The cheese croquettes made with Chimay cheese were amazing. We ordered seconds;) Nice gift shop and playground for the kids!

We visited this place while our stay at escape Chimay. This monastery, seems like situated in middle of jungle. Though cars can drive unto the monastery but it's a walking distance from escape the Chimay and the walk is very beautiful. It's an isolated monastery, feels like totally cut off from the world. Huge buildings and beautifully made. No entrance charges for visiting it. The church is very well maintained and so is the garden. It has a small cemetery. It's very quite, hard to see people around. Very good, would recommend visiting this place. People can't visit the brewery though.

Nice little butterfly farm in Chimay, Belgium. Kids enjoyed exploring the mini-jungle to find the different butterflies. They learned about butterfly lifecycles. Friendly staff that speak good English. Signs are also written in English so you can learn about the different butterflies raised in the farm. Small entrance fee of 6 Euro for adults 4 Euro for 3-18 yrs. Small shop to purchase butterfly knick knacks.

The diving centre at Eau d’Heure upper lake is located next to the main lake dam.
It is a place for mass diving: the car park is welcoming hundreds of cars and vans with divers coming for training from all neighbouring countries and beyond.
Booking in advance is compulsory otherwise the access to the shore will be denied.
The lake offers adequate depth for all levels from OW PADI buddies to Deep Diving PADI buddies.
Being used to quiet diving spots, we were impressed by the number of people diving from the shore (it is also possible to book a boat to reach the other side of the lake looking for deeper waters).
The water temperature at -30 meters was 18°C at the end of July, and a wet suit or semi-dry suit make it all right.
The visibility is fair enough for a training. This is not an exploration spot indeed.
The cafeteria within dive centre premises is nice: excellent Belgian fries, excellent local beverages (although not necessarily compatible with diving!).
From/to Brussels, Zaventem airport, it takes an hour and a half drive and about 50mi/80km to reach Barrage de l'Eau d'Heure near Philippeville.
From/to Charleville-Mezieres, France, it takes also an hour and a half drive and 55mi/90km to reach the Eau d'Heure lakes (a highway between Belgium and France is under construction at the time of drafting this review. I believe it will be much faster anytime soon when the highway will be open).

If you visit this site with children who are interested in nature, it can be nice. But the weather needs to be good, for the insects to be seen. For other animals, you need special gear, binoculars etc. The whole walk becomes increasingly indoctrinating (bad humans do bad things to innocent nature) and turns out to be one guild manipulation trip. This is not nice. It starts out already with the history, where the lake is portrayed as a favourite weekend place for locals (sailing boats on a lake lined with concrete walls, and nature being suffocated. However, if you look at the pictures, it looks like it was more of use to more people than than it is now.
The price is quite high for a visitors centre.

Pub of motorcycle enthusiasts, beer (Trappist), karaoke and kicker. The decoration is entirely made of fairing and combination SBK World Championship, Supermoto, Moto GP and WRC. Chimay, Westmalle, Westvleteren The L'Achel, Orval, Rochefort La, La Trappe Zundert and are available at the Queen Mary. Karaoke has places every Thursday and second Saturday of the month. The Pub has its own kicker team playing in Division 1. Large selection of beer, cocktail, shoot, etc. (birthday cocktail regulars) Snacks (hamburgers, toasted sandwiches). But also cacciatore, chips, cheese.
Ignore the Guinness sign. Thankfully you will not find an oneils style pub. Just pop in and check out this quirky pub decorated with motorcycle regalia. Full of character with very friendly bar staff and clientele. Wonderful beer choices, the best in chimay. No food as you would expect in a beer Cafe just quality snacks. A gem of a find .
