St. Mary’s Cathedral is one of the most striking churches in Batticaloa . The church is painted in a bright blue colour outside and a pale green inside. There is also a Lourdes cave near the entrance. When you are visiting Batticaloa, just go and have a look.

This was our first visit to east coast of Sri Lanka. Visited Batticaloa fort and to be honest was a bit disappointed as there wasn't much to see.
The Galle Dutch fortress is amazing and the Matara fort is much smaller than Galle but much more to see than Batticaloa.

A bit disappointed... this is one of the 'things to see' in Batticaloa but it is fenced off, no information and rubbish strewn around it. It could be pretty good if the Batticaloa Tourism Association (is there one?) put together some information about its history and they cleaned it up and opened it up to tourists. It's in a great spot (obviously by the water!) so it could be made into something worh visiting
