Good cakes and fruit smoothies, as well as the usual range of Lao dishes and a few Western ones. It has a bright interior and reasonable service
It is located on the main square beside the memorial well
In an area devoid of good eateries, I would recommend that you seek this out for a meal , or a snack

A discreet place, just a few steps away from the river. Cozy open air atmosphere in a local home, right next to our outdoor kitchen. We serve mainly Lao and Thai food, have friendly personell and all our ingredients are organic.
At the newly opened Thakhek restaurant Mama Lao, I met a super friendly staff and was served great food from the Lao cuisine. A highlight in the small town, I returned for several meals during my short stay, and I would recommend the cozy restaurant to anyone. The English speaking staff made the experience complete.

A charming restaurant located in the centre of Thakhek town market plaza with views of the Mekong River. Popular with locals for delicious Lao delicacies and frequented by expats for the international cuisine. Open for Breakfast all day. Lunch and Dinner offer burgers, steaks, fish, Italian, and of-course the Lao specialties. Vegetarian options available. Come relax and enjoy a drink, or meal.
I guess sometimes things just don't come together. My girlfriend wanted to order greentea I thought of a cheeseburger. Both of those things where not available. I asked for a shake ( in the menu) the waiter pointed to another shop on the street. They even had to buy a bottle of water before we got one! I can life with all that it is Laos after all but the food was terrible. To be honest I did not expect to have a good Hamburg but also the Lao meal of my girlfriend was far from good. And on top of that it is quite expensive (for laos) If you want good local food go to mama Lao it is really good.

If you are staying in Thakek and fed up with Asian food you should definitely try Patalai!
We had one of the best pizzas!!
Patalai is owned by a French, she is very welcoming, open to chat, makes you fill like at home and we had a great evening sharing our travel experience with her across Asia :)

A retreat to an oasis of tranquility for business and leisure travelers, enjoy the exhorted of an authentic Lao cuisines from different part of Laos, it also offers and international cuisines as well at Sunset Restaurant, Thakhek. We are committed to creating a memorable restaurant experience through great relationship with our guests. Serving a myriad of international and local guests.
Come here to enjoy the expansive view of the Mekong River. I had lunch here twice and enjoyed the seafood fried rice as well as a noodle dish. The beer was cold and the service was good. You can probably find similar food at a lower price, but you will not enjoy the river view with pleasant breeze on a hot afternoon.
