We booked our airport transfer with Destination Soleil. Great communication already from home, prompt replies from Carin in the office. Driver waited with a sign at the exit. We had Ibrahim for our transfers and then Hans for a trip to Curepipe. Both drivers are very well spoken answering any questions you might have. I would always use them again and can highly recommend them. Thank you

At the doorstep of the historical village of Pamplemousses, within the Beau Plan estate, an old sugar factory houses a cultural, recreational and gourmet experience; it recalls the adventure of sugar which has left a profound impression on the history and identity of Mauritius. L'Aventure du Sucre invites you to a superb and interactive tour along the pathways of history and into the heart of Mauritius and its cultures. You will explore the memories of an era that will never stop travelling your mind. Each episode, each anecdote unveils the magic world of sugar. The tour is at the same time amazing, mesmerizing and enriching. L'Aventure du Sucre keeps the best to last : the tasting of the best of the Mauritian sugar industry, 12 unrefined natural sugars kept for export and having their own colour, texture and taste. You will also taste 9 New Grove rums which is the outcome of a meticulous manufacturing process. A shaded and charming restaurant greets the visitor with a sophisticated cuisine that brings together the savours of the island. These gourmet temptations are followed by a succession of homemade desserts made with natural sugars sists of an eco-museum, a boutique and a restaurant. Opening hours : 9am - 5pm.Seven days a week except on 24, 25, 26 and 31 December and 1 and 2 January.
The setting for this museum makes it. Strolling through what was originally a large factory handling the 'end to end' sugar-making process really brings the exhibits to life because so much of the original machinery is on display.
The museum is as much about slavery and the (human) origins of Mauritius as it is about sugar, and is all the more interesting for it.
You need at least 90mins to do it justice and (if you don't have kids in tow) could easily spend twice that. Just beware that it isn't week ventilated so on hot/humid days it gets a bit too warm/airless.
The restaurant serves very nice food, but the service (though friendly) isn't great and some tables get no breeze, which was a problem when we visited on a very hot day. Major fly issues too.

The Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanic Garden (SSRBG) covers an area of about 37.5 hectares constituting of various attractions in terms of flora and fauna of both terrestrial and aquatic origins. The origin of the SSRBG dates back to the French period. In 1736, the French Governor, Mahé de Labourdonnais, chose to set up his domain around the present Main Gate of the garden. In 1767 the French Intendant Pierre Poivre, the creator of the garden, introduced vegetables, fruits, flowers and spices from all over the world. It is the oldest Botanic Garden of the southern hemisphere.
While this place is pretty, it's mostly about the various types of trees. We enjoyed the lilies and a handful of other blooming flowers but there isn't much here that blooms. We spent almost an hour and saw the whole place. We did not get a guide. Maybe that would have made it more interesting?

SPORTFISHER - Grand Baie : http://www.sportfisher.com/index.html (website) / Sportfisher Charters Sunset Boulevard Route Royale Grand Baie Mauritius / Fax: (230) 2636309 / Phone: (230) 2638358 / Email: [email protected]
We arranged a day's fishing with Sportfisher, having researched online prior to booking with them.
Once we were out in Mauritius at the Zilwa Attitude, we gave them a ring from our hotel and they got back to us the next day with a place on a 42-foot boat (goes deeper out to sea) two days later, honouring our request to share with another fisherman who also wanted a day's deep sea fishing. We taxied out to them the following morning to pay and were able to view the boats from the dock - which looked (and were) immaculate.
My husband felt very looked after on the day. They arranged a taxi collection from our hotel on the morning (6.30am for a 7.00am departure) and then sailed for three and a half hours out to the deeper part of the ocean to fish. He caught 3 Dorados, 4 Wahoo and a handful of Bonitos. His co-fisherman hooked into a Blue Marlin, which swam so speedily away that the reel screamed! Unfortunately - and distressingly for the fisherman - it came off the line!!
The team take the fish out of the sea for you, and then lay it out on the dock and photograph you with your catch at the end of the day. There was space on the boat for three fishermen to be catching all at once. At the end of the day, they taxied him back to our hotel very promptly, around 4.45pm after landing at 4.00pm.
You need to take your own food on the boat, but they provide beer and soft drinks. There's a very clean toilet onboard, comfortable Seating, and an upper deck to sit on (swayed rather a lot). The fish go into the hold.
It was an experience he'd love to repeat, and he would definitely have no hesitation in choosing Sportfisher again. Our hotel wasn't able to arrange a whole day's fishing with another party to share the costs, so we definitely struck gold with Sportfisher and the shared cost of a day (1100 rupees / £230). They also returned my emails promptly, and were very pleasant and organised in their hut on the dock at Grand Baie.
Highly recommended!
