The approach to the Basilica provides a good view of it and as it is pedestrianised provides a relaxed walk towards it. The outside is only painted to look like brick.for me the colour and exterior were unnatural. Inside it's a mixture of simplicity and ornateness. It's also the first religious building where I've seen the service on plasma screens which I think is a retrograde step and takes away the aura of the Basilica.

A must see for local culture and for anyone wanting to experience the authentic Catholic religion. Friendly and helpful locals great dining and lots of souvenirs.

El Derrumbado is the monument lying on top of the hill next to town. Its a very popular sports destination for the locals - during weekends they have juice sellers on top.
You get here by heading to the river and turning left and walking through the whole long Ecosaludable-park to the end where there's a bridge crossing the river and a dirt road winding up up up. From the center it's 1.5 hours to the Derrumbado - monument (+ obligatory virgin Mary), but after that the dirt road keeps winding up through rolling hills and beautiful farmland and you can hike all day if you want.
The view on a clear day is amazing - not so much the town, but rathet the whole Buga-valley

Compared to rainforest birding, this is a place for the lazier among us. Only 15 min out of Buga, it's got easy access to wetland and dry forest birds, including Common Potoo, Crimson-crested woodpecker and Dwarf cuckoo. Bring bug spray and plan to be out of here by 10:30. It gets REALLY hot!

This bar has a great atmosphere, good music, they make really good cocktails and they sell Holy Water Ale Microbrew!
