This is an extensive park which is easily accessible from Glasgow and allows you to walk as far or as little as you like. There are five car parks dotted around the outskirts with the visitor centre being the main one. There are free leaflets with an easy map of the main paths and numbered attractions. There are two Castles, but Craigend Castle is fenced off because it looks like it is crumbling and would be dangerous, while Mugdock Castle, on the day we were there, was also inaccessible because it was being used by a film crew. In fact there was quite a big area cordoned off with security staff preventing people from getting near, but on a rise in the distance we could see men in kilts and on horseback as they filmed a scene for something about Robert the Bruce I believe. We still managed to walk around for 90 minutes and could have done more. The paths are clear but fairly muddy, so if it has been at all wet you should wear good boots and trousers that you are willing to get spattered with mud. It's a great place for meeting dogs, there are children's play areas and a good shop and restaurant.

I was going to walk, however I was delighted to discover that a monorail has been installed which takes you from restaurant to restaurant so you can do the whole thing in under two hours if you were so moved, wonderful innovation. Tickets are available from Costa.

I live locally and have been walking round the Reservoir for 14 years, throughout my children's babyhood, childhood, teenage years and early adulthood. You'd think I'd get bored but there is always something different and the sky's are ever changing. Sometimes the evening light illuminates distant Glasgow towers, sometimes your focus is on the kingfisher flitting and diving.
I've watched fish jumping in the summertime, spectacular sunsets, a pine tree filling with baubles well beyond Christmas and gaggles of geese panicking as planes pass by on the descent to Glasgow airport.
This is a place for all ages and fitness levels: runners, walkers, cyclist.
Must folk will smile on passing.
Sometimes you don't have to wander far to find a little piece of heaven!

Mugdock Makkers is a group of Artists and Crafts People who display and sell their own work in the Gallery in the Courtyard at Mugdock Country Park. All the work is handmade and Makkers demonstrate their work in the Gallery on Saturdays and Sundays. The Gallery is open every day, except Christmas & New Years days 11am to 5pm in the summer/11am to 4pm once the clocks have gone back for the winter.
This is a gem within Mugdock Country Park. There is broad range of crafts on display including glasswork, wood turning, jewellery, beautiful silk scarves and original paintings many of which are of the Scottish landscape. A range of prices and great for gifts. The artists help to run the shop and when I visited on a Sunday there was someone demonstrating how to make little brooches, was interesting.
