The Ionian Islands are splendid, cinematic paradise. The waters are bluest blue, the sands are achingly silky and smooth. Everything looks heavily Photoshopped. But that's just Mother Nature, in all her unspoiled glory. Zakynthos is the largest of the Ionian Islands, and it's as fruitful as it is beautiful, boasting a bounty of crops like olives and grapes. Music is a huge part of the local culture—you can catch a concert or festival almost any night of the week, and you'll be captivated by the sights and sounds of Zakynthos performers.

This places is ideal for diving and swimming. It has crystal clear water in nice blue/green-ish colours and rocks, forming interesting caves and sights.
The sunset on this side of the island is amazing!
There are only rocks, no beach - so it's not suitable if you only want to sunbathe, or you are not a good swimmer.
Don't bring kids there - the rocks are slippery and it's easy to loose balance.
If possible, wear from those special shoes for rocky Beaches.

Took a boat trip that included a stop on Marathoris island, and a chance to swim. Also anchored near the caves for another swimming opportunity in beautiful clear blue water. Busy on the boat, but very enjoyable. Saw a turtle just before the boat left the harbour!

Beautiful tavernas set by the rocky coastline with a deep blue bay for swimming and jumping off the sturdy parapet if you're looking for sand free entry into the sea!
Modern and well maintained cushioned beds with parasols overlooking the rocks to the sea.
A great day spent here!

This relatively modern church with it's separate bell tower is positioned opposite to the entrance to the port. The exterior is stylish but relatively plain and belies what lies within. The interior is truly magnificent; having painted walls and ceiling, akin to the Cistine Chapel. The scenes depict various stages of Christ's life and that of the apostles.
Simple but colourful stained glass windows, spread their light across the floor and huge chandeliers hang from the ceiling. It is unfortunate that the church wasn't lit up when we visited, as it would have shown the interior in it's full magnificence. Natural light only, keeps the interior on the dark side. The remainder of the church is ornately decorated and there are some plush seats at the rear, to spend a few moments of quiet reflection.
At the bottom right hand side, up a couple of steps, lies the even more ornate silver tomb of St. Denis, the island's patron Saint. Above is a fine silver chandelier. His entombed body is taken in procession around the town on his Saint's day, August 24th. Ladies must cover their shoulders and scarves are available for this. Photography is strictly prohibited inside the church. Candles are available at the rear, for a donation, should you wish to light one. There is also a gift shop to one side of the main entrance, selling mostly iconography.

Some people offer an excursion that includes the blue caves and then the navaggio beach. Be carefull, because the small motor boats can sail to the blue caves which are nearer but if the sea condictions are not good, the navaggio sail is cancelled. The blue caves are a must.

We visited this an the lagonas fun train (highly recommended). We were given a very detailed and interesting explanation of the whole process by a very knowledgeable guide.
This was followed by sampling the olive oils and olives.
Nearly everyone on the trip left with a purchase, this speaks for itself.
Excellent experience.

This attraction is private property and if you want to enjoy the views, you have to be eating or drinking in the restaurant. The lighthouse is a very squat affair and it would be a surprise if it is barely visible at sea. If it is, it is not sufficiently close enough to the twin rock formations to warn ships of impending danger.
The property has the world's largest Greek flag and is officially in the Guinness book of world records. It is quite an impressive sight, when fluttering in the breeze. It is taken down in bad weather. There is a nice garden area and the views from the restaurant are wonderful but you pay a premium on both food and drink, for the privilege.

Near Laganas, in Laganas Bay - natural reservation for the Caretta Caretta turtles.
An amazing beach with shallow waters surrounded by hills. It's really beautifull here and you can walk out really far without having to worry about swimming. If you go for a charter here, make sure you stay at the beach instead of the pool, it will highten your vacation and you also get to see the view.
Also, the airplanes comes flying over the beach wich is really cool at first. We didn't find it disturbing at all, after a while we hardly even noticed them.

Known for its wide stretch of sand and beautiful, warm waters, this bay is one of the most popular Beaches on the island.
Lovely beach and particularly interesting if you're wanting to find out more about the turtles. There's a rescue centre to look at (although not completely up and running). The only issue we had was the €25 sunbeds. 4 beds and an oversized shade. We couldn't take one small shade and 3, as it would not have been enough shade and this would have been €15. They were making a fortune, and there are no showers, toilets or anything else that we've found on other Beaches (for about €10!) Just hope some of this goes to the turtles!
