I really did not get what other travellers got when visiting this mine, you go down loads of stairs and through endless tunnels while visiting various chambers.
Some of the carvings were good but there is also a few Styrofoam figures which are pretty poor. The Cathedral is impressive and i would say that was the highlight of a very ling tour.
Beware of the very small lift to the top in which nine people are crammed very tightly.

The Saltworks Castle in Wieliczka was the historical seat of the mine's management board between the 13th century and 1945. Currently is available to tourists and is the official seat of the Cracow Saltworks of Wieliczka. You can see also: - Tower: (14th century) the only facility of this type preserved in Medieval urban fortifications - Shaft: (13th century)the oldest mining shaft in Poland. - Saltworks kitchen (15th century): the walls of the first "mass catering facility" -an astounding collection of of salt cellars (16-20 century), approx. 400 in all The Wieliczka Saltworks Castle was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. Admission 4/3zl, family ticket 10 zl, Saturday free. Guided tours in English 35 zl per person; must be booked at least 14 days in advance.
I pre-booked this tour from the UK via Trip Advisor. It stated hotel pick up but be warned this is not always the case. We stayed outside of the main areas and had to make our own way to the pick up point which cost an additional 60 Zloty return trip.
The driver was great- young, knowledgeable and very friendly. He walked us to the entrance where we met with our group and an English speaking guide. You’re given a earpiece and machine to place around your neck which allows you to hear the spiel clearly, even from the back.
You need to purchase a photo permit at 10 zloty if you want to take pictures but if you forget there’s a second chance halfway through.
The guide was amazing, her knowledge, wit and professionalism were second to none.
The mines themselves are a wonder to be seen- these miners were on another skill level!
We enjoyed every bit of it but be warned there is a lot of walking, with a large portion being down steps so if you have major mobility issues this may not be for you.
There were a few rest spots with the obligatory gift shop mingled in but hey, they need to keep the place maintained.
The lift ride back to the top is no use for claustrophobics either, sardines in a can have more room.
A wonderful, amazing day which I would highly recommend.

New addition to attractions in Wieliczka because it was opened in December of 2014.
After you finish with tour of the famous Salt Mine you have to stop at Teznia (graduation tower) to take in all that healthy air induced with NaCl (sodium chloride).
It does wanders for your breathing tracks and for lousy $3.00 Canadian (9.00 PLZ) you can loaded yourself up with so much goodies that it will be keeping you out of doctors office for months... :)
It is all to simple idea of water induced with at least 16% of NaCl falling and breaking up through bunch of shrubs causing some to evaporate.
Very popular idea used in many places inland to give people who have trouble breathing same treatment as what you get when you walk and breathe air oceanside.
Make sure while in Wieliczka to include this new attraction in your itinerary.

Not many people pay attention to this hidden gem after visiting the salt mines. Its a small walkable distance from the mine or train station through the Gardens. Although the entrance is paid and very cheap but I was surprised that they offered free tickets on weekends. Collection is good and can take atleast an hour easily. staff was also very friendly and helpful.

I never thought I could be so entertained and "lit up" by a quest-room. Though pretty much tired after all salty mines visiting and heat in the air, the Monster's detective story has just boosted all the mental and physical resources in me. Tension, agony,...MoreThank You very much!

This is a small church situated close to the salt museum in castle ruins. It is walkable distance from the train station or the world famous salt mines. although nothing extraordinary, its tall and simple tower in pink color provides a nice backdrop for picture.

Super miejsce na grupowy wypad.
Dużo atrakcji, fajna kadra instruktorów. Miła atmosfera.
Klasowe pieczenie kiełbasek wzbudziło tylko apetyty na kolejną imprezę.
Polecam jest super.
