to see historic homes of yester year and learn about Estonian customs and history. On our arrival on a Sunday, colorfully clad dancers were performing traditional dances accompanied by musicians. The long barn houses were fascinating as were the amazing numbers of wooden containers and aids to daily life. It was fun to see chickens picking around the Gardens for food. The fishermen's cottages on the shore and nearby windmills were also of great interest and the coastal scenery was wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there, including the traditional meals we had too. Great value, great exercise, loads to see and do. Many excellent descriptive panels in English describing what you are seeing too.

I spent 2.5 hours here which was enough but another visit again could also be beneficial to read more in depth about some of the Exhibitions. A great way to learn about Estonian military history.

Museum of Coastal Folk

The Museum of Coastal Folk is situated in the ancient seaside village of Pringi in Viimsi, just a 30-minute drive from central Tallinn. Here, in a cosy old schoolhouse, the museum has found a home for itself, a place to demonstrate the harmony of land, sea and man meeting, a place to preserve the beauty of simplicity. Here, on Viimsi peninsula, the land ends. You cannot go any further on foot, and you don't want to go back. Exhibitions as well as educational and artistic programmes show the many faces of Estonia's coastal folk, their history and culture, and the present seaside culture. You can count on smelling the waft of tar and hearing fishermen's jokes as well as sailors' words of wisdom! A nice sea-themed play room and the seal-boy Vigri are present to give little visitors an appreciation of the seaside lifestyle, so essential to everyone who lives in a sea-state. The museum shop is renowned for its choice of marine-themed presents and books. See also Viimsi Open Air Museum - one ticket, two museums.

This in many ways would be seen as old fashioned as its not interactive but we enjoyed it very much. There are lots of photos with English explanation plus artefacts to see. I was fascinated by a film of hunting in the frozen seas. They worked so hard!
I also loved Reading about Oskar Kuul - he seemed an incredible man making sure there were schools, hospitals sports facilities for the fishing collectives. So if you've done the obvious places and want somewhere that can tell you more if the story of the Estonian people come here!
