Instead of sitting back doing nothing, the elders at this sleepy town were inspired by their visit to British Columbia in Canada that having murals was an asset to draw visitors in. From a few murals in the beginning would eventually morph into something outlandish and ambitious where locals were pitched against one another for creating eye catching murals. Please don't have the idea that the type of murals here are the types that would challenge the supremacy of Melbourne being the city of street arts. Rather, murals here conveyed the story of Tasmania, prominent locals and Sheffield itself. Sheffield ain't somewhere that you would spend a lot of time in but at least it gave you a serendipity toilet stop whilst you are en route towards Launceston. Commendable visit.

We visited Sheffield to see the murals and found this delightful little shop full of beautiful glassware and funky toys. The photos show the merchandise as words can't really explain their beauty. Everyone can take a piece home - small or large.
I would advise all who visit Sheffield to take the time to stroll through the World of Marbles and enjoy.

Thank you to the creators of this magical place. The phones were switched off, the brains and imaginations engaged, smiles, laughter and fun (along with a little frustration thrown in....) were enjoyed by all. It was so lovely to find an attraction like this thriving in this day and age. So much work and attention to detail has gone in to the creation of this place and it is refreshing to find it well maintained and continuing to be loved by both operators and visitors alike. Highly recommended attraction and fun for all ages.

We visited Fudge 'n' Good Coffee after taking a day trip to Sheffield from Cradle Mountain. Being a young adult, I 'TripAdvisor' everything when it comes to the best places to eat. We chose Fudge due to the high ratings and position on TripAdvisor for Sheffield. We purchased coffee, scones (so warm and fluffy!) and a six pack of fudge (if you love fudge, you must get the fudge. Do not question it, just buy it - three just isn't enough to takeaway with you). We enquired about the 'soup of the day' at midday and were advised what was on the menu. As it was a little early (since having the scone goodness), we went across the street for some shop browsing and returned at 1220hrs disappointed to be informed that they had sold out of the soup and it was unavailable. Hence the 4/5 star. We were surprised this happened (so relatively early to the normal lunch hour), the small amount of people sitting at tables at the time (only one table were eating soup) and also due to the popularity of this cafe on TripAdvisor - I would have thought they would have enough of their special/soup to last at least until 1pm if not longer. Other than this slight disappointment and having to make alternative arrangements for lunch, I would highly, highly recommend this place for great coffee and the best fudge, ever!

This is so good there should be an entrance fee! We could have browsed all day. The collection of old LPs and musical memorabilia is staggering. If it were not for airline luggage allowances, there would’ve been some serious spending!

The Working Art Space is a delightful gallery, situated in the picturesque town of Sheffield. There is a diverse range of exhibited work, all by local artists, which include pottery, woodwork, felt work, furniture, silk painting, encaustic brooches, jewellery, sculpture, hand painted cards and paintings of all mediums.Open between the hours of 11am-3pm.Regular workshops are held each month, which are open to all.
This little village was famous for its murals. They have mural competition each year in springtime and price-winning murals would be mounted up on the pre-set stands in the Open Gallery to replace the old ones while there were many other murals painted on the walls of the buildings within the village itself. Apart from the Open Gallery, Post Office, Police Neighbourhood Station, supermarket and cafes/restaurants were there to cater for the needs of locals and visitors. Worth coming here to have a look at the artworks and stay a couple of hours here to experience the livelihood in this small village.

Like no other Quad Biking experience in Tasmania this 2 hour guided adventure will take you through the very terrain they were made for - sub-alpine bush, farmland and mountainous terrain, right in the heart of Cradle Country, just 10 minutes from the Town of Sheffield. Instruction provided. Must be 18 years old or over and hold a drivers license. Bookings are essential.
This was a lot of fun, challenging and exciting but safe as long as you pay attention, know your limits, and follow instructions, and of course the guide/ride leader,Justin.
It pays to have a little bit of experience with momentum and rough terrain from somewhere, perhaps mountain bikes,FWD,or dirtbikes.
The location is stunning, you get much closer to Mt Roland than the road and are right underneath it,the start area has an uninterrupted view.
The ride has some exciting and satisfying river crossings, climbs and descents, and is quite rugged and loose in some places. There is coarse gravel, mud, leaf litter and thick bush of a few varieties, the odd tree fern. A good taste of what the bush and soil around the flanks of the mountain are like up close, and at the topmost point it seems very close to the base of Mt Rolands towering cliffs.

We mainly popped in here to access the free wi-fi. The lady at the counter was happy to help and give us tips on other things. Our favourite part of Sheffield was the murals in the park right next door, which are done every year as part of a competition. These were more "artsy" in nature than the historical ones throughout the town, with themes like childhood, and time, and there were some brilliant entries that showed evidence of much thought, and yet were very accessible. For anyone who has even a small interest in art, this is a must see! Also closely located to the visitor center is a fruit shop which sells delicious real-fruit ice-cream that's well worth the $4.50 a cone - yum!

We stopped in on the way past because we saw the sign and it was a bit of fun to jump into the little train for a quick 1km ride each way. When we finished we went into the shed at the back to check out the model railway in action. It's quite a display and a lot of hours and work has gone into building it. It's all run by volunteers so apart from the $7 to have a ride, we gave them a couple of dollars donation. You can also 'sponsor a sleeper' for just $5 and get a certificate for helping to keep the train running. Highly recommend for parents looking to take the kids somewhere different. Take cash because there's no eftpos, there is a CBA bank just up the road with an ATM out front.

Wow, the setting, the wine, the platters, the host, Tim!! It was a dreary day weather wise but there was nothing dreary about our time here! The cellar door is set up in an old shearing shed where we tasted an array of wines and then settled in for few hours of wine and amazing platters. Will certainly be returning soon! A must go to winery!!
