Gippsland's Premier Motor Museum - with changing of display theme every 4 months, around 60 vehicles and 50 Motorcycles on display, along with much memorabilia.
Had heard about this museum and must say my expectations were exceeded. The display of vehicles and memorabilia encapsulates segments of both local and national transport heritage. The open expanse of the building with some 2000sq.m of floor space, allows large and small vehicles to be displayed so you miss none of them. The motorcycle/bicycle display is fantastic. In the centre they have built a garage from the oldest house in Maffra which in itself reflects the motoring influence of a local motor dealer. The volunteers are very friendly and most knowledgeable. It is a credit to the founders that since opening just over 10 years ago they are about to celebrate 100,000 visitors.

...Well Herb was an environmentalist. He was very passionate about the wetlands in Sale.
And where to find the sanctuary? Well... to be honest... I have driven to Sale numerous times and I have always wanted to walk over Pearson's Crossing... the bridge nearby. So that's what I wanted to stop for. But how to get there? I made my way to the shopping centre and turned left near Safeway's servo.... and followed the road past the water plant.
When I was a child, I could walk through this area... as a young person I could drive to the Highway from this area...but these days, it's cordoned off for walkers. So I left the car ... .and walked. I found the signpost telling me about the sanctuary next to Pearson's Crossing. I walked over the bridge ( Yay! Finally) and then continued to walk five minutes as the signpost had indicated. And there it was... Herb's place.
It's signposted and the area is quite small... there is a lookout over the river when you make your way over the winding track. With a highway nearby you wouldn't expect to find this... but it's quite delightful. So if you want a break from driving... or you are one of those people that loves exploring... Herb's is the place for you.

Can’t visit the area without making the effort to see this historical bridge. You can approach in a vehicle from the Yarram side which brings you to parking area suitable for a bit of fishing or lunch break. From the Sale side you can walk across the bridge to that area, some great photo opportunities in the evening.

We stopped at this lovely natural wetland/park while visiting Sale. Ducks, geese, water fowl, black swans, pelicans and many more varieties of bird life. A maze covered in art work to walk through, wooden carvings scattered throughout the park area, boardwalks. Ideal place for a picnic and also toilet stop (in good clean order)

Well to quote the infamous Maxwell Smart... "I missed by that much". I pulled over to look at the information centre after driving past it on numerous occasions only to find that there was a sign on the door saying that as of the 25th January, 2018 it has been moved to a new location at the Port of Sale.
The location as it is has wonderful areas to park boats, caravans and cars. There is a playground for children and it's just lovely. However , in the name of progress nothing ever truly stays the same so it's been moved to the new Port of Sale upgrade.
I guess now I need to make an effort to go and see the new information centre.
When I pulled over there were a few people pulled over, so it was fortunate that there is still a map ... because there were people still looking for directions.

The Gippsland armed forces museum can be found a short distance off the highway at the old West Sale airport. The museum is run by volunteers. The quality and arrangement of the exhibits is of a very high standard and concentrates on Gippsland's role in conflicts from the Boer war onwards. Of particular interest for me was the documenting of this region's role in the training of airmen during WW2. There are some very historic exhibits to be found here. We spent a couple of hours at the museum and found it most interesting. Recommended.

Not knowing the history of Sale and it's railroad we were driving around just to get our bearings and wasting a bit of time before our business meeting. We were quite surprised to stumble upon this signal box. I found out later that you can get the keys and go inside to take a look. It's a pity we coildnt do that. I think it is fantastic that this piece of history has been retained for everyone to see. Well worth a visit if you are in these parts. It's not like you even have to do a big detour to go see it.

Gippsland Galley is a new and exciting addition to the Gippsland town of Sale. It's stunning both in its design and its art displays. Located around the river area, this is a modern building which houses the local library, a cafe which has river views and a free to enter gallery. It's a must visit when visiting Gippsland.

Churches aren't what I remember them to be as a child, where families within a community met on a Sunday to listen to the gospel. These days they are often remembered for events--Funerals, weddings, christenings.
Many years ago my godchild was christened here .... another time I went for a funeral... today I was just passing and as I wandered in memories flooded over me of the events that have taken place in here.
Historical significance in abundance... it's quite lovely to stop at.
