Museum is very well laid out, with amazing displays. Contains contents from Phillip II's tomb (Alexander the Great's father) and another tomb called Royal Prince tomb. Not to be missed!

The Musesum of the Macedonian Struggle is a historical museum that presents the local history and cultural identity of Macedonia, keeping alive the memory of the struggles of Hellenism and highlighting the role of ordinary people who left indelible traces in a diverse cultural heritage. With the tours one discovers a lesser known but ideologically charged chapter of the Greek and Balkan history of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Museum is open to the public Monday-Friday 9:00-14:00 and Saturday 10:00-14:00.
The museum building was once the Greek Consulate in macedonia and was built in 1894 and designed by Ernst Ziller. The museum is set over 3 floors. It is excellently illustrated with period photographs and well described in English. In display cases are uniforms, guns, swords, medals and more. In the basement there are several excellent dioramas which are very realistic. On the top floor is a reconstruction of the Consul General's office and more display cabinets. There are also several film displays with English voice overs. To obtain an understanding of Thessaloniki and the struggle to obtain independence it is essential to visit this museum. The staff are very helpful and friendly and speak excellent English. Excellent.

The Salonika campaign is a very much overlooked part
of World War 1 in Great Britain, where it is overshadowed
by the events on the Western Front, Gallipoli and Palestine.
However, for the people of Serbia the campaign is of great
significance. The cemetery contains the graves of Serbian,
French, Italian, Russian and British allies. There are also
graves of Bulgarian POWs.
The main section of the cemetary is devoted to the Serbian
graves and not surprisingly most of the visitors to the cemetery
are from Serbia.
The British section is at the far end of the cemetery. Like
Commonwealth War Graves Commission Cemeteries throughout
the world it is very attractively landscaped and well maintained.
The local staff are doing an excellent job. It is moving to walk
among the graves Reading the names, regiments and age of
the dead. It is notable that many of the ages are older than
might be expected. This is because a major cause of fatalities
was maleria, to which military support personnel were as much
at risk as front line troops.
If you are in Thessaloniki a visit is recommended.

I dont know exactly what I expected, propably something smaller, but afterwards I think it was well worth going there. There is some stairs you need to go down to get to the best view. There´s a place where you can go behind the waterfall and a small cave that costs 50cnt to enter. Beware of the weird big insects in the cave!
If you go all the way down the stairs, you´ll get to see the double falls. The stairs are in places very slipery when wet.
Free wi-fi, restaurant and free parking place available.

It's a must if you are in the area. Has a little bit of everything, with both traditional and modern touches. Was a bit overcrowded but worth the visit.

An unique, romantic, entertaining and relaxing spring holiday at "Santa Marina" Guesthouse /Kato - Loutrakion, Loutraki, Northern Macedonia, Greece/
Dear friends, we would like to tell you about one of our wonderful experiences that was funny, relaxing and perhaps especially memorable.
Whether you want to spend your holiday at Kato Loutraki or just shorten your trip to the sea and back, it is worth to stop, take a break and explore the surrounding area for at least 2-3 days.
Surroundings:
Although that the resort has 4 star SPA hotels, I can not say that the place is expensive, even on contrary. It is suitable for every pocket and every season.
You can scroll through a number of mountain trails, caves, lakes, practicing rock climbing, cycling, horse riding, in winter - skiing, etc.
The local people understand and speak Bulgarian, English and Mecedonian perfectly, so you do not need a guide or translator.
The village is not very big, you can go around and everything is within a walking distance - swimming pools, SPA centers, taverns, wineries, shops, bakeries, ATMs.
The food is nutritious and healthy, not expensive, much of it is produced locally. In taverns cook roasted lamb. We love our "Oasis" tavern, located slightly down out of the city, with a wonderful cuisine, exquisite traditional salads, cleanliness and excellent service, with children's play ground and a pool during the summer.
On the way to the old town, you can visit a local winery, which is also unique and you can taste fine wines and appetizers or you can reserve it for the evening for your club, family or friend's party.
The region has been known since antiquity for its rich mineral Springs that come from great depths. They are with different temperatures and are very healing. They are not expensive, (2-3 EUR entrance) but you can also make individual/ family/group visits and SPA procedures (starting at 15 EUR per hour, because the water is very healing). There is a pleasant 50 meter swimming pool at the end of the mineral alley, for both adults and children. There is an interesting mineral waterfall that forms a quite large lake and goes into the cold river.
The Springs are with constantly running mineral water, some of them can be used during the whole year, 24 hours a day. There are a number of smaller mineral Springs along the river, forming natural baths in the rocks, that offer funny baths from warm to cold water from the river. The water has a special milky-blue color because of the salts in it, which somewhere remain on the stones. The climate is mild, the air is very nice and smells of flowers, blossom trees and water.
The 4 star hotels offer massages and SPA procedures, but the pools in them are small, not mineral, and with technical water heating.
"Santa Marina" Guesthouse
To the direction and nearby the mineral Springs of Kato Loutraki , after a well visible marking plate on the main road, 20 meters in a little street, you will come to a beautiful, elegant house with a stone fence and a wooden gate. Absolute authentic hit for us, the accustomed to the regular SPA Hotels.
Outside, the house is architecturally different from the others in the area, assigned with an unobtrusive antique style, it may be built on the site of an authentic old house. And when you go inside, you will gasp, because you feel like you are in the "castle" of an Austrian king of the last century. So we named it the "castle."
Although its specific architecture, the house is new, lined with local stone and surrounded by a beautiful stone yard, /not sweet and obstructive/ and an interior of an architectural jewel. Made with fine materials, with great taste and love and with an eye for every detail. It has all amenities and is suitable for families, groups and individual holidays. Great for families and friends. The interior is very interesting, romantic and modern. One has the feeling that is in an Austrian castle (but a modern one) and soon begins to feel like that. Each room, studio or apartment are equipped except with central heating and air conditioning and with a beautiful fireplace, that lights in seconds and is maintained by the owner of the hotel every day. The cleanliness is a high level (rating 10). The kitchens, the utensils, the dishes are new. The beds are very comfortable /something rare for Greece/. You can sink in them and you wake up the next day at noon. Towels and linen are changed regularly or on request.
The owner is very smart, but not intrusive, delicate, talkative and attentive and will inform you with great pleasure about everything in the area and shall discuss with you any subject.
The house does not have a bar or restaurant, but it is not necessary, because everything is in one step around.
The barbecue is carefully hidden in the backyard, not to spoil the effect of the combination of a glass of wine, sunset, stone and calm thoughts. It is critical good to have the local oranges with the morning coffee on the sunny Terrace.
We highly recommend "Santa Marina Guesthouse" - Kato - Loutraki Macedonia, Greece - to all lovers of aesthetics in all its forms and manifestations of this God's-kissed place - beautiful and natural.
Have a nice time, unforgettable experience and greet our dear landlord.
Best regards,

When you buy a ticket for this site you get to visit the site and the architectural museum where they house the artifacts that have been excavated. The museum has no many beautiful items like the various death masks on the 2nd floor and the spectacular mosaics on the first floor. I also enjoyed seeing the many artifacts and jewelry that are displayed. The actual site also has some fabulous mosaics and an excavated bath house. Definitely well worth visiting both.

The Church also served as the catholicon of a Byzantine monastery. It is built in the aisleless timber – roofed type with ambulatory, ending in the east with two chapels. Its exquisite mural decoration is one of most complete painting complexes preserved in Thessaloniki and is representative of Palaeologan art. Of the monastery complex, excluding the catholicon, only ruins of its entrance survive.
