The keepers of this area have prepared many things for their guests to enjoy, Learn to walk on stilts, try your best at navigating the maze, take a walk though the rose garden, check out the high ropes course, be sure to also take in the museums on the property, There is something here for everyone. By combining this visit with Hans Christian Andersen museum, you can get 30% discount. The 110 bus from The Central Station drops yiu right at the door (zone 1 ticket) and picks you up again in the other side of the road. A great day out. We spent five hours here! It's a wonderful hands-on experience learning about life in Denmark in 18th century. Meet the animals, play some games, eat at the inn or take a picnic. To think that all these buildings were brought to this place from around the country and re-erected here. And it's great for children, too.

Would not say its the best zoo in europe...the enclosure for the zebras and giraffes is pathetic... given how much roaming these animals do in the wild...this zoo offers them a shoe box. There are lots of animals that look well kept.

Hans Christian Andersen Museum

This museum let's you discover what an amazing author Hans Christian Anderson was. I only thought of him as an author of fairy tales, but you'll discover that he was much more and about his unhappy and trying life. The modern museum has attached to it the home where it is believed he was born. He didn't divulge much about his poor circumstances. Be sure to watch the introductory film that is shown in various languages. Most if not all explanations are in Danish and English. Well worth a visit.

Aside from the general impression of a large, white interior space, be sure to see the large, carved, gilded altarpiece, and go down underneath it to see he bones of the Sainted king of was killed in the church by soldiers not keen to accept Christianity about 1000 years ago. Free entry, and good acoustics if you get a chance to hear a choral concert there. A bit too much echo for a full orchestra, however.

Hans Christian Andersens Childhood Home

Reviewed By Trainbleu - Brussels

We had some difficulty finding the small house house where the writer H.C. Anders spent most of his childhood (H.C. Barndomshjem) because the half-timbered façade was entirely covered in scaffolding when we visited in May. The museum was open though.
Some Tripadvisor reviewers seem to confuse this house, where there isn’t much to be seen, with the much larger museum called ‘Hans Christian Andersen House’ on Bangs Boder, which contains the house where Andersen was born.

It is a nice place to relax and spend time. It has some of the fairy tale sculptures from the HC Anderson stories. There is a children's park, benches and streams and rivers. There are lots of birds. It is probably possible to go boating in summer. We saw some boats, but there was no boating (this was in the end of March).

Ladbyskibet

Reviewed By jolene793 - Northcliff, Gauteng, South Africa

My husband and I caught the bus to Kerteminde from Odense on a weekend and were horrified to find that our travel options to the Ladbyskibet were very limited.
Luckily the folk at the tourist information are extremely helpful and they gave us the information we needed: We could hire a private taxi (which would be very expensive) or hire bicycles.
We though to take the bikes as a novelty - despite the fact that neither of us had ridden a bike for many, many, MANY years - and I only momentarily regretted our decision when we had traveled about 4km (Ladbyskibet is about 7km from Kerteminde) and it started pouring with rain!
After we were soaked through the absurdity of the entire situation and the beauty of the wheat fields surrounding us actually made the journey wonderful.
The museum accompanying the actual Viking boat was interesting and the Viking boat itself was amazing to see. I was a bit disappointed that the coffee shop was closed (judging from the tables and chairs outside that’s where the coffee shop is based and since it was raining…) as I really could have done with a hot cup of coffee.
Overall enjoyable (and very memorable) experience.

Once this was a museum for the more experimental art, but now they have the full range. And this is why they have an exhibition with danish artist Vilhelm Lundstrøm, one of my favorites. And what a great exhibition, with Lundstrøms paintings and Finn Juhls and P.H´s design. One of the best Exhibitions I've seen in a long time
