I almost didn't go because it is expensive for a small-ish museum featuring only one artist (1600 yen). However, I am glad I did. It was fascinating to see the variety of effects that can be obtained by one artist working mostly in just one style. Some of the pieces really touched me and I found myself going back to look at a couple of them more than once. My 2 year-old loved the kage-e theater. The museum was small enough that she didn't get bored and there were a lot of families with young kids so I didn't worry too much if she made noise.
The final piece on display in the back of the museum was truly breathtaking.

木材で出来てる復元天守だ!江戸時代に新しく出来たような中は美しい。
Komine-jō, located in Shirakawa and so also known as Shirakawa-jō, is a reconstructed castle. It has however been reconstructed in wood, the original materials in which it was built, and so we may call it an exact replica, which includes many defensive features. The interior is beautiful. You can see here what the castle was like when it was freshly built in the Edo Period.
A history of destruction and rebirth:
First built by Yūki Chikatomo in 1340. The Yūki clan were defeated by Hideyoshi in 1590. Under the Tokugawa Bakufu, Niwa Nagashige was transferred to the Daimyate (the Tokugawas would switch around Daimyō to weaken their power bases). In 1632 he reconstructed the castle as the seat of his power.
The castle was destroyed in 1866 during the civil war and rebellions that erupted before the Meiji Restoration, being destroyed in the Battle of Aizu by Satchō forces when rebels took control of the castle. Tsuruga-jō was also damaged in that battle. The donjon was reconstructed in 1991.

Unlike a zoo, Animal Kingdom is located on top of mountain and the area is huge. From the entrance there is a cat petting house and dog petting area so if you like animals you are free to enjoy being with dogs and cats. Many shows are also seen in sequence so you don't have to worry about missing one for because of another show.
From top area you will either need to walk a long way or to take a bus to another (huge) zone. There you will see raptor show, sheep show, alpacas, ducks, etc.
You may either take bus back or take ski lift (costs extra).

We took the ropeway up to the 9th stage of Chausudake without doing much research so I didn't know that it is only a little over a kilometer from the ropeway station to the summit. Once we were up there we thought about hiking up but weren't prepared for the cool temperatures and rain so headed back down. The views are amazing and next time we plan to hike to the top!

Something different from the premium outlets and the place is big. A lot of local Japanese and some international shops. But there are only a few restaurants and most have long line up during peak lunch hours. Must go if you like shopping.

This is NOT your first destination in Japan.
It's no Fuji or Asakusa. If you are looking for uber-Japanese-looking, tourist trap style place, you will be sorely disappointed. I'm already here for 3years+ and I'm done with famous tourist trap, my next stop is a beautiful secret spot like this.
What do you do here? You ride the ropeway up, hike to the top of the peak, smell phosphorous, hope it doesn't erupt, and take kickass photos.
This place easily tops Japanese's most beautiful autumn spot, in many polls. I didn't made that up. This is probably the most redeeming thing about the peak. Surrounding area is full of farms, family adventure theme-park, and so on.
Who would I recommend this to? Japanese who like hiking.
