One word ....awesome!
Glad that we went despite the initial apprehension since the museum wasn't located at the city centre.
The trip was definitely worth it.
For those who grew up with Toyopet, Celica, Corona, Corolla, Volkswagen Beetle and a host of other vintage cars...this exhibit brings back memories.
Glad we were able to visit this museum and I recommend tourists to make a detour to see this awesome place.

This is strictly for totoro and Miyazaki fans. Otherwise, the attention to detail to recreate the house and its environs will be lost. We were the only non Japanese members of the group of about 10 pax, mainly Japanese moms with their kids. But we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the 30 min tour exploring the house, funding the staircase to the attic, mei's red slippers, looking through the wardrobe. Rather stalker and voyeuristic but perfect for satisfying our fascination with the movie. It was the highlight of my pre schooler's day.
We made the 50 min journey from Nagoya station to catch the park shuttle in time. Otherwise it would have been a 20-min trek in blazing 33 degrees Celsius

The Linimo line I am told was built for Expo 2005 and is privately run. If you are in the area as we were (Toyota Museum), then make an effort and enjoy the ride. At least you can say you have riden a Maglev train, although speed is only around 60mph and levitates about 1/2" off the track. Each station has a symbol such as a triangle or cross as well as it's name to help international travellers during Expo 2005. Unfortunately you cannot use your Manaca card or similar but the fare is only a few hundred yen.

The Meito Art Museum is currently exhibiting some really fabulous paintings. These works of art include different subjects; animals, buildings, scenes of urban life, "portraits," etc. Some of the paintings are so stunningly realistic that it looks like the subject will jump out of the painting and into your lap. Other paintings are more abstract, but have such tremendous depth, detail and eye-catching color variations that they really hold your interest. The paintings are exhibited on two floors in the museum. The lighting is excellent and the museum is quiet and well-designed. In addition it has a beautiful (karesansui) "dry gravel" garden outside. All-in-all it is a very pleasant place to visit. The museum also has a lovely little gift shop which has a great selection of cards. The museum lies just a few minutes walk from the Irigaike Park Station on the linimo line.

There is a nice park where the battlefield used to be (the park is especially beautiful in the spring), and there are some stone markers to show where some of the warriors died or were buried. Some famous Japanese warriors took part in the battles at this location; there is one area known as Blood Lake because according to the legend, there was so much blood shed during the battle that the water turned red. There is a quaint little museum at the battlefield and also an area where people practice the traditional sport of kyudo (archery).
