Mangla Dam is a large size water Reservoir that can be approached from many directions. From tourism point of view, it is best to approach it from Mirpur city and Mangla Cantt. From Mangla Cantt, one has the option to pass through the Cantt and go to Water Sports Club where one can enjoy many water sport facilities plus a very nice restaurant that has a great view of the lake and provides good food.
From Mirpur city, there are many points that one can approach the lake but no formal place like Water Sports Club in Mangla.
One can visit Mangla Fort too which is located up the cliff on the main dam and also houses a museum of Mangla Dam history.
The best option in my view, from tourism point of view, is to go to Army Water Sports Club in Mangla Cantt, hire a boat and go for the lake tour. Going to the old Ramgarh Fort which is locate on a cliff inside the lake is a must.
If one is fond of fishing than there are many options. The old water sports club area, few points around Mirpur, Chaksawari and Dudhial. Fishing spots keep changing with weather.

The view form the fort are truly breathtaking. It is almost complete surrounded by water and is on top of a hill with 360 degrees views.
We took a boat from Mangla Water Sports Club (Army controlled located inside the Mangla Vie Resort) for a very hefty Rs8000 (6 people in the boat and 2 hours allowed for return). The water sports club itself is in a very beautiful location
Once you arrive at the jetty you have to climb up to the fort. It took us about 20-30 minutes to climb up (we had 2 kids under 10 and a baby).
The fort had an entry of Rs200 per adult. It has a few interesting features to look at including the wells inside. You can climb to the very top of the hill from inside the fort for the best views. You can spend a long time here but the boat hire had time limitations but we were still able to see all of the main area.
No food or water so take these with you. Also no bins so take a bag so you can take your rubbish back with you for proper disposal. The lack of tourists due to the inaccessible nature also means that it was very clean. Please keep it this way!!

Mangla Fort is an old fort but is now located just next to the main embankment of Mangla Dam. It is located on a steep cliff just next to the dam spill way. After the construction of Mangla Dam, it actually became a part of the dam infrastructure and now houses a museum, a park an inauguration plaque etc. Some part of the fort was consumed during the construction of Mangla Dam but For has been well maintained by dam authorities.

We visited this place in a boat when Mangla Dam water was rising but it was still visible. I have visited this place in winter when there is no water around. It's a lovely place and sceneries are amazing there.

The shrine of the Sufi saint, Hazrat Miran Mir Sarkar, is a unique place in many way. It is a holy place for the locals since centuries and lot of people visit the shrine every year even nowadays. What makes it special now is the fact that for 4-5 months in the year, it remains almost submerged in the waters of Mangla Lake.
The shrine is located in the old Mirpur area that went inside the lake of Mangla Dam in 1967. At that time, this shrine was located on a high mound. Nowadays, the shrine almost disappears inside the lake during summers when the water level is at its maximum, with only the tip of the shrine visible outside the water. In winters when the water goes down, the shrine along with area around it become visible and is visited by thousands of people who come there to pay respect to the Sufi Saint. Every year during the winters, locals of the area renovate / refurbish the shrine and prepare it well before it goes in the water again in May / June.
A unique and serine place that has an impact of its own.
