If you are sailing in the south sea of Denmark, you should stop at. Marstal. It has an old harbour with ship builders. The town is really nice with some restaurants and bars.
Approaching Marstal can be a bit challenging, because you have to carefully follow the track.

This is definitely a hidden gem. We tied up in Aeroskobing Haven to weather out a storm. Lucky for us the tide went out and we spent an extra day. Fantastic walks thru town on cobblestone streets. The people were so friendly and nice to strangers. Hope to go back there again.

Not too far away in History Marstal was a power center for Danish and European commercial freight shipping. Schooners and later small powered freighters carried cargo all over the world.
Bringing things to modelsize often helps understanding, and the fact that this shipping adventure originates from a mere 4000 population town certainly makes the story almost model size and very interesting. Really interesting actually! The fact that the people responsible for this fine museum seems to love their jobs and are very skilled and informative made this visit very appreciated.
Naturally the museum shows much more than shipping: the area's development from stone age, folklore from past centuries and much more.
If in Marstal where things seems to otherwise stall or move slowly, one should definitely spend a few hours on this fine museum.

The outstanding and respected painter Rita Lund has lived for a number of years in a house in Marstal on the Danish island of Ærø in the South Funen archipelago. Throughout these years, she has participated in countless acknowledged art Exhibitions world wide and she has stuck her name as a highly skilled painter.
She has in the house at Ærø both private residence and gallery. If you are on Ærø, whether on holiday or for business purposes, then you have to go past Rita Lund's Gallery. And you can be prepared to leave the gallery with your head filled with sensory impressions and a painting under your arm.

We reached this brewery/restaurant after taking the bus and walking through a pouring rain. We were very pleased to beat a huge tour group inside and start our beer tasting before them.
The beer was quite good, especially the walnut Amber. We had a modest snack in their restaurant.
I would avoid them during a huge tour tasting, if possible.

Every night you can follow the NIGHT WATCH through the old town. On WED and SAT the tours are conducted in English - start from the old Town Square at 9 PM. The tour takes about 1 hour.
Stumbled upon this tour from seeing signs and we are so glad we did! Alan, our night watchman, grew up on Æro and knows fantastic history first hand from his father and grandfather. English tours are only a couple nights per week and the price...MoreThank you very much for your opinion. We are so happy you liked the tours as much as you liked having you in the group.

Aeroskobing Church, built in the mid 1700's, is located in the market square of the town. Worth a visit to enjoy its simplicity and tranquility. The baptismal font dates back to the 1300's and the most ornately designed pulpit dates back to the 1600's. It’s also an opportunity to view some model ships that hang from the ceiling.

"Average" doesn't seem very fair, but it's a fun and funky museum... and I only rate it that way due to its simplicity.
There are hundreds of ships-in-bottles in this smallish museum (that takes about 30 minutes to visit). The museum is in the center of town and worth a stop.
