Great skiing. Fantastic new cable cart right up to 2000 metres with excellent pistes. Many snow canons working when snow is insufficient. Great restaurants and bars. Good connection skiing to Buhlberg. Good skiing for all levels (black, blue and red pistes). Not suitable for young children who are just learning to ski though. Better to go to Betelberg as there is a baby lift.

Well worth the nominal fee to take the gondola up. Bring a picnic and a book, or hiking shoes and refreshments. There is a restaurant at the top with the great area for families. As a solo visitor, wonderful hiking trails well marked (fine for English speakers) the views were breathtaking! Absolutely a worthwhile visit in the summer.

Hidden in the Bern countryside half way up a mountain (literally) is the touristy village of Adelboden.
It's an all year round attraction - hiking in the summer and skiing in the winter. It caters mainly to Swiss families who have been visiting for generations.
There are bars, cafes and cake shops galore as well as sporting shops and a good size coop supermarket.

Jurg is the very best kind of Instructor !
He puts you, and keeps you at your ease at all stages, and very soon you are finding the real comfort and pure joy in this most wonderful of activities.
The equipment is the best, and bang up-to-date and after your 'Qualifying' Lessons with Jurg, which he ensures are pleasurable and far from difficult, you have found a "New Lease of Life" as regards the "Snow Slopes" of the World. I loved every minute of it and will ALWAYS, now, seek to hire a Snow Bike rather than Skiis.
Super fun, and, as a bonus, when you are waiting for a companion to catch you up, you are sitting down !!! :-)
Thank you Jurg Turtschi !

Very good instructors (mine was for sure). Details and good feeling with what someone wants / needs or what can cause “problems”.

You have to get there by car, driving uphill a winding road. But it's absolutely worth it, if you are looking for a genuine, local, manual cheese production.
Usually on Wednesdays they will allow guests, where you get to see a part of their every-day life. You will join one production cycle, and will be offered to taste the fresh cheese, as well as the 1 year and 2 years aged cheese.
It's a lovely place, owned and operated during summer by a local farmer and his wife. The house contains the stables, the production room, the living room (where they also sleep), and the basement for maturing the cheese.
After the tour you will have the opportunity to buy a good cheese from the previous year's production.
All in all worth a visit. I have been there with all my family. Everyone had a good time.
Maybe one more note: The farmers do not speak English. But that wasn't an issue at all. Communication works well also using hands and feet. If you bring someone who understands German, you will get a richer experience, and lots of interesting background information.

The Roy Emerson tennis week at Gstaad Palace was fantastic. If you are looking for a tennis camp that gets everything just right then this is the one. There were sixteen guests when I attended and six very good coaches although the number of guests will vary throughout the summer. Roy is always in attendance at sessions and runs the week personally. The programme was a good balance between playing and rest time with five hours play on most days. The standard of coaching was very high with genuine interest shown by the pros. In addition there are some group dinners and a picnic for those who wish to join them. I travelled solo and met some very interesting people who all love the game.
The Gstaad Palace hotel is a wonderful setting - it is no surprise that people return year after year, I certainly will and recommend it very highly.

Allthough we are commenting to the topic of Tschentenalp in general, we thought it worthwhile to mention how nice the sledging was.
There are two slopes, one for beginners (#7) and for intermediates (#8). Both offer a fun and not too long / not too short experience, which is a definite recommendation in case you are in the area.
Last, but definitely not least: the guy at the rental place was very friendly, who offers to try all sorts of fun-looking stuff besides sledges as well. Maybe next time!
