Awesome beach(es). The real thing is even nicer than the photos. But one needs to be prepared as there is no natural shade on the beach. Also, a lot of boats come and anchor on both sides very close to the shore, which is rather annoying. The beach as such is spectacular though.

Another typical orthodox church built on top of a hill, offering great views. They suggest that if you are a strong believer this one is a must go; I suggest that even if you are not, just pay it a visit for the views.

A very nice cave. Well... we were kinda caught in a 100% Greek tour (minus us just 2 non Greek speakers) so...although I'm sure it was interesting... the explications kinda went over our heads... the stalactites were mostly small, but knowing that this cave was used for refugees in WWII the old graffiti and the actual atmosphere in the cave was very nifty. At the end when the guide figured out we couldn't understand anything, we had a good laugh. All in all, if you're in the area, definitely give it a go...

A friend who was Reading one of my holiday brochures drew my attention to this walking week. I booked the week as part of a package and can only praise the organisation and professionalism of the whole operation. The organisers Nigel and Katerina have extensive local knowledge of the island, nothing was too much trouble for them. Katerina who speaks excellent English (far better than my Greek ) led the walks, she is a surveyor/engineer with outstanding local knowledge. Nigel had an extensive walking program mapped out for the week. I particularly enjoyed the walks to Orias castle, Aghios Stephanos, Lefkes and Flambouria. A highlight was meeting a local old man on his donkey, with his dog, using the path to head to Chora from his home. The evenings were organised personally by Nigel who took us to a variety of different tavernas on the island. I was asked for comments while on the hikes and I felt that some of the paths would be hard to find on my own, so the guided option is the best. I cannot wait to return and hopefully complete the routes which could not be fitted in to the week. Lunches could be purchased at the bakery and shop across the road from the hotel in Chora and the walks were in general 4 to 5 hours long, I shall definitely return in a cooler month than June.

Skilou Beach

Reviewed By peter12-46 - Milan, Italy
