This is a cool little town that is safe, enjoyable, and refreshing to walk through on a winter's early morning. A nice quiet stroll along the river and around the shops is a great way to start the morning. Not a great selection of lodging nearby.

This small privately owned museum just off the A8 between Stuttgart and Munich shows the finest fossils from the Holzmaden Quarry. This location has given us some of the best ever specimen of marine fish and reptiles from the Jurassic. Museums all over the world own one or two pieces, but here you can see a whole ecosystem beautifully preserved, like diving into a petrified ocean. And I wouldn't have liked to meet some of those ichthyosaurs!

Panorama Therme

This thermal bath is excellent value, has a wide variety of water-based exercises and activities (some guided by instructors) and the staff are friendly and helpful. The charges are far below what you would pay in a hotel and the facilities much better. The best value is in the form of a weekly ticket. Parking is ample and there is a restaurant in the complex, serving drinks, pastries, snacks and meals. Whenever my wife feels her joints are creaking or tired, we say we should make a return to Beuren, and we very much hope to do so.

Hundertwasser-Wohnhaus „Wohnen unterm Regenturm“

Reviewed By Asta365 - Kent, Texas

The Hundertwasser Wohnhaus in Plochingen reflects the architect's vision of no straight lines, oddly positioned windows of varying sizes and shapes, and colorful facades. The Wikipedia article gives a quick overview of the artist and the Plochingen city website provides more details on this housing project. There are two points from which you can look at the project at each end of the courtyard - entry into the central courtyard of the project is prohibited to give residents some privacy. While it would seem restrictive, you can get a good sense of the layout and construction from these two vantage points, to include close up view of the brightly colored tiles and strange pillars. There are bike racks around the periphery of the building, and car parking in the basement. On the ground floor there is a nice grocery store, Rewe, to pick up snacks or picnic supplies. While not quite as over-the-top as the Hundertwasser Haus in Vienna, there is real a cool factor in finding such a unique building in a small town!

The Peter's Church is a beautiful building in the old town and a stop on the walk around the old town. Entering the church you'll see a spectacular roofing system, a massive old pipe organ, and beautifully maintained frescos.
Stroll around the church and see the age old wooden beams, stain glasses windows and family named pews. This town is a fabulous little town, well maintained and clean with a market on the weekends. The town was established in 700 AD and continued to thrive.

What a market, what a day! Everyone should experience such a Christmas at least once in their lives..it's just what you think it should be! Lots of lights, lots of Christmas decorations, lots of happy people, and best of all, lots of gluwein! When you buy one of the many different types of gluwein you pay extra for the cup...if you want to return it, you'll get your deposit back, but it sure makes a great souvenir of a wonderful day!

Ruine Reussenstein

Reviewed By dnvpaul - Kew Gardens, New York

The Schwäbische Alb is a beautiful region in Baden-Württemberg. A wonderful perspective of the area is from the Reussenstein castle ruin. Climb up the tower to see the beautiful view to the valley below. There are trails through the forest that go in all directions from the ruin. It is well worth making this a destination if you visit Kirchheim for the incredible half-timbered (fachwerk) buildings in the city center.
