Mangrove park located in Kalibo. Manager of the place gave us free passes to check the area (Thank you, Sir!). Place is charming and educational specially if you're interested in mangrove-related research. Downside is that it lacks signage, tour guide, mini presentation etc. for explaining mangrove specie available in the area, its difference with trees, life cycle, importance of mangroves, etc.

Island Star Express

Island Star Express provides a convenient airport transfer service to guests who want to enjoy the world-famous island of Boracay. It offers guests a seamless transfer from Kalibo International Airport and Caticlan Airport to any resort in Boracay.

Reviewed By RetREMF1 - McAllen, Texas

Two days before arrival we booked round trip transfers from Caticlan Airport to resort using credit card. Or so we thought. We called to confirm on Saturday, 25 Nov because we had not received any further communication. Good thing cuz Island Star Express didn't have our booking. Website issues most likely to blame.
Most importantly the transferred occurred without a problem. We were met by very pleasant and professional staff at the airport; transported us to and through the port, to the ferry assisting with our bags the entire way - on and off the van, on and off the outrigger boat.
Company representatives apologized for the website malfunction with the credit card; followed up with a receipt that we didn't have because of the online booking, and went way way out of their way to ensure that we were satisfied with their service and that we knew customer satisfaction is their number one priority.
We are satisfied and will use Island Star Express again without a doubt. Actions do speak louder than words. Thanks for reaching out, following up and demonstrating your dedication to customer satisfaction.

Being around handicapped dogs is a unique experience. They just crave for your attention. Bridges is blind, but still young at heart, and plays with both humans and dogs. Tina and Midnight back legs are paralyzed, so they could only go for a walk at the beach on a wheelchair, but they really enjoyed those ocasional walks more than anything.
Please visit the center and take them for a walk. Jenie Mae and the staff are very friendly and introduce you to every dog. They will join you for the walk. I spent a week there and I didn't want to leave. Handicapped dogs are so attaching. Please bring a little Sunshine to this lovely creatures, and simply take them for a walk on the beach. Have the oportunity to see their happiness during the walk is priceless.

St. John the Baptist Cathedral

Reviewed By frances i - Kalibo, Philippines

The Cathedral of St John the Baptist is the seat of the Diocese of Kalibo. It is a huge church built in the 19th century. Unlike in other provinces where churches were built just on the side streets, without even a compound to speak of, this Cathedral and most churches in Aklan have wide grounds or compounds of their own. It had been renovated sometime in the early 1990s after a strong earthquake. It is a brick and stone church and we only knew it was made of bricks after the renovation exposed the bricks on the side walls, just as it should be. It is ideal for weddings as the church's baroque altar looks grand. it is a beautiful structure, with a cross layout. It has a huge dome over the altar and it reminds one of the dome of St Peter's in Rome. the facade is also beautiful. and you can take photos of the Cathedral from several vantage points of the town plaza.
the church gets locked during 'dead' hours as there had been incidence of theft of church properties and antiques in the past. the front grounds had been landscaped but maintenance is sometimes lacking. to think that tourists come for a visit. a big grotto which has been there for decades can be found on the side of the church. since the town celebrates more the feast of the Sto Nino (third week of January) than the fiesta of John the Baptist on June 24, a statue of the icon can be found on the altar and another big Sto Nino image is housed on a side entrance of the church as pilgrims and church goers regularly pay homage to the icon.
When in Kalibo, dont forget to visit the Cathedral of St John the Baptist. What more, be in Kalibo on the third Sunday of January each year as the diocese celebrates the feast of the Child Jesus.

We had a great time exploring Tigayon Hill and Park with my college classmates after enjoying the food in Linabuan Barangay Fiesta. The facade of its caves are interesting and bats are everywhere.Too dark inside so we plan to play basketball instead in the near basketball court after the picture taking in the nearby Aklan River. It takes a breathtaking climb before reaching the peak but worth it to experience the highest peak of Kalibo.

Pastrana Park

Reviewed By Wesley S - Portrush, United Kingdom

It seems like this is where everyone comes to party. It was decorated so well for Christmas and there was so much happening each night. People of all ages just mingling around, enjoying the atmosphere. When we were leaving they were beginning to decorate for the fiesta at the end of January. It was looking really good. It's right in the centre of the city so you'll not miss it, but worth a wander around in the evening.
