Have fun climbing the 250+ stairs to the top and great view of both Fjord and North Sea. Nice shop selling handycrafts, homemade sweets and serving coffee etc. Also a fun little workshop where local artist make decorative works from beach pebbles. And a surprising playground which got all 3 kids (6, 11 and 18) excited.

At Abelines Gaard you will have the opportunity to experience life as it was in the dune houses long the coast of the North sea. - Abelines Gaard is a part of Ringkobing-Skjern Museum, LIVING HISTORY.
Heading west from town, then south along the dunes, we somehow missed the lighthouse north of Hvide Sande, but a few kilometers down the narrow beach road, we came to Abilene’s Farm (Abelines Gaard), a fascinating preserved freehold built between 1854 and 1871 and occupied between 1890 and 1957 by Abilene Christensen and her family. Fourteen years after she and her husband took over the farm, he died, leaving her with five young children. Apparently possessed of both determination and inventiveness, the widow raised cattle, pigs, chickens and crops and also served as the area’s telephone contact (here farm had the first phone) and house of refuge for sailors and fishermen wrecked on the coast. During the summer, Abeline also took in paying guests.
Arranged in a square forming an enclosed courtyard, the thatched, white stucco buildings housed both people and animals and also included a smithy and a carpentry workshop. The farm was apparently prosperous but the work hard. Most of the furnishings, household effects and clothes, including women’s flannel bloomers, were original, dating from 1900 to 1950, and the picture they present was a life of hard work and cozy surroundings. In the corner of one bed-sitting room was a manikin of Abilene, the face animated by a bespectacled actress delivering computer-screen-prompted descriptions of various aspects of the farm’s functions. As with almost all museums we’ve encountered in Denmark, nothing was set aside in a display case or roped off. Although the texts were only in Danish or German, visitors can ask at the entrance for a flyer in English that describes each of the rooms.

If you love Beaches and you also love history and maybe the second world war, then the West Coast of Denmark is the place for you. Miles and miles of Beaches and deserted bunkers. A special good place is the "Houvig Strand" -beach. A lot of nice deserted bunkers and miles and miles of Beaches. But be aware on an extremely windy day there is a lot on sand "in the air" and that's not too nice.

This place has everything you could wish for. Rental, cafe, surfshop... BUT when I step inside the premises, I feel like I have entered a supermarket. I have everything you could wish for. But the service is not very personal. Nothing to complain about, but nothing to praise either.
West wind Syd on the south outskirts of town is better. At least according to me.

we went to hvide sande for a bit of sightseeing and mostly to get cash from the atm. we were staying in bjerregaard which is a holiday houses area and there was no atm nearby. hvide sande was pretty, quite a bit of shops, restaurants. we had lunch by the water. lots of sailboats in the water. some people were going for a cruise. seagulls were flying around. families with pets were out for a walk or lunch. it was marvellous. very relaxing.
