We wanted to visit a quieter water village around Shanghai/Hangzhou area. After some research, we decided Nanxun is the place. It turned out we were not disappointed. Mind you every Chinese 5A tourist spots (a Chinese tourism board rating. 5A rating means a top tourist attraction) will attract its fair share of day trippers. Fortunately they are all gone in the evenings, and arriving only in late mornings. Staying two nights in the village we really get to see the best when not many tourists are around. The canals are beautiful during those times. There are real life people staying in the village. Wondering around watching people go about their business early morning is quite amazing. To us the most beautiful part of the village is outside the ticketing area, walk and follow a local market street, turn right to the 'hundred house' canal area. It is much more quieter and charming. The few historical houses of the rich and famous are worth visiting too. Turn out that this village was home to some of the richest Chinese merchants of that time. One thing worth mentioning. Nanxun is really quiet on weekday nights. There is hardly anyone on the street. There are a couple nice little bookstore/cafes next to a canal. It is really a great place to finish off your nights. Grab yourself a cup of coffee or tea, sit next to the cananl, enjoy a tranquil and peaceful night. Unforgettable.

This is a must see in Nanxun. It is really nice to walk along the canal and go from one side to the other using the old Bridges.
These arcade buildings with white walls and black tiles were built along the river and connected by archways.
under some of the arcades you have little restaurants and some shops

A very beautiful place with plenty of things to do. The boat ride was really nice and you should consider this as part of your day.

The park is just 20 minutes' walk from the hotel I stayed in. So lucky!
This is the place where the famous Feiying Tower is located. The Feiying Tower is an unique “tower within a tower” architecture, originally built in the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD).
Other than Feiying Tower, the park has many historic monuments related to great Chinese calligraphers, Literary authors, poets; philosophers and thinkers in different dynasties. For example, Yun-hai Building (韻海樓, 773AD), Zha-si Gallery (霅溪館, around 750 AD), Mo-miao Pavilion (墨妙亭, 1072 AD), Six Gentlemen House (六客堂,1074AD), ....... etc.
There are also beautiful trees, Gardens, lake with lotus….. The park is a combination of cultural heritages and scenic beauty.

This house was build long time ago but it seem to be preserved in very good condition. It is closed to the Huzhou Tai Lake and the Old Chinese town along the small river.

The Feiying Tower is a “tower within a tower”.
The inner tower was built in the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD). It is a finely carved stone structure encircled by an imposing outer tower. The outer wooden tower was built around 970 AD and underwent many renovations in subsequent dynasties.
The tower is a beautiful and delicate ancient Chinese architecture. It located in the "Feiyng Park". There are many historical buildings and beautiful scenes. Worth a visit.
