We thought there would be more about Joseph Banks other than the two display boards and the very pleasant courtyard garden featuring some of the plants he brought back from his travels but we had gone too early. This place is being worked on and, one day will have a room dedicated to the great man.
However, the gift shop is lovely. I had to buy two handbags as they have a fantastic selection at great prices plus their lovely scarves. The ladies on duty were also a joy to meet.
We hope they achieve their goal.

This is an amazing antique shop, spread over 3 floors with so much to look at from clothing, furniture, books, pictures, clocks and ornaments!!!
Everywhere you look there is something different, I had planned to visit all antique shops in Horncastle but spent so long in this one I ran out of time. I went around it twice and saw something different each time, amazing!!
Good prices as well so you can easily find a bargain to take home!!!!

Fairly good beer, fast efficient service at the bar although pub proprietor's run it with a rod of iron making one feel somewhat I'll at ease. You'd need to visit and observe to see what I mean but slightly unwelcoming.
The music however is great and we frequently go on Wednesday open mic nights.
Overall good but with aforementioned Reservations!

Our second visit to this lovely spot. The garden continues to develop and is a pleasant place to wander round, some good plants for sale too. Children are welcome to use the garden play equipment and I believe you can use the swimming pond at times too. The "conservatory" was new to us this visit and makes a delightful place to eat amongst the "tropical" plants ( and in our case shelter from the rain!) Food and service was excellent- we had paninis and there were plenty of choices of cake at a very reasonable price.

If you visit Horncastle you can usual park in the market place on a non market day and it is easy to miss this rather grand monument if you don't stop to take a look.
Its called the Stanhope Monument as its a Memorial to Edward Stanhope. He was a respected benefactor to Horncastle and this was erected by the people of Horncastle as a thank you.
So next time you are in Horncastle stop and take a look.

Visited Horncastle on May Bank Holiday and was pleased to see that the Drill Hall Antiques Centre was open as so many seemed to be closed. There is plenty of light and space to walk round the main room downstairs and a vast selection of antique items to browse. Friendly staff willing to open the cabinets if you wanted to get a better look at anything. There is also a floor upstairs so don't miss the stairs up near the main door as you are leaving. It is a short walk from the centre of Horncastle but definitely worth it as this is one of the best on the Horncastle Antiques & Collectables Trail.

Visited Horncastle as there are a large number of antique & collectable shops in a short walk of each other. This one is unusual as it is located in a former church. A lovely old building so you can walk around inside to view cabinets full of vintage & collectables. Great it was open over the Bank Holiday too. Can be a little dark inside but well worth a visit if you are in Horncastle.

We have visited Great Expectations a couple of times when we have stayed in Horncastle as we love looking around the antique and vintage shops. It was much easier this time to walk around and see everything as they seem to have organised things better. There is much more light coming into the shop too.
There are cabinets and different areas from lots of dealers over two floors so allow plenty of time to have a good look.
Plenty of parking near the river and market place when the markets not taking place.

Visited Horncastle and found St Mary's just a short walk from the Market Place. There are paths running through the church yard and some interesting buildings as you walk through including Horncastle's former workhouse on church walk. Look for the blue plaques. The church itself is very interesting and the grounds are very relaxing. There is some work taking place to restore the tower at the moment.

Visited Horncastle and was pleased to find a new antique, retro & vintage shop has just opened. The town has lots of this sort of shops and its great if you like this sort of thing to find so many in one place.
The gentleman owner was very pleasant and we had a look around. There is a room at the back as well as the small shop area at the front.
Mainly furniture but some paintings and smaller items too.
Very friendly and worth stopping by when you are visiting.
