The hike starts with the parkinglot in Festvag. Walk 100 m in direction Henningsvaer, take a turn to the right and follow the trail. It`s steep, but the view is amazing.
This is rated an "intermediate" hike by Norwegian standards (which means that it is somewhere in-between intermediate and demanding for just about everyone else). That said, it is a relatively safe hike with few places that are too exposed. Another thing to know about this hike--which is true for many hikes in Norway--there isn't always one well-defined trail, so hikers at times will just have to keep heading in the direction of the summit, especially for the first third or half of the hike. After that, there is a split in which you can turn left and go to the higher summit, or turn right, and go to a lower summit with a lake.
The best thing to do is go to the higher summit, and there is generally a well-defined path, and you'll reach a big red and white sign post. There, make sure to sign the log of hikers who have reached the top. Then, head down towards the lower summit and stop at the lake for a refreshing dip. It's a nice way to break up the descent and to experience both summits of this hike.
You don't need an ordinance map for this hike, but I would highly recommend getting a book called "Explore Lofoten," which provides descriptions and instructions for many hikes all over the Islands. The best thing to do is order it on Amazon to plan ahead, but if you don't, you can also buy an English language version at one of Henningsvaer's markets or convenience stores (we got ours at Mix).

Exhilarating moments of fun and beauty. Seeing the sea eagles and fjords was magical. The driver/guide was great. I greatly appreciated the additional outer layer of clothing, mittens, and goggles, and tea and ginger cookies! Dress warmly! You'll have some great memories and photos.

The KaviarFactory is an international venue for contemporary art. Located in Henningsvær, in the middle of the archipelago of Lofoten, Norway, it takes advantage of its off-the-grid location and aims to offer experiences and confrontations that never previously has been available to such regions.
This is an interesting small art exhibition in a fantastic building.
It had a few interesting pieces, exhibited on 2 floors. The entrance was 100 NOK per person. If you don't want to see the exhibition or pay the entrance fee, I would
still recommend stopping by and visiting the gift shop, it had some of the best and high quality gifts on Lofoten and in hindsight I regret not shopping more there.

We visited Lofoten in December and we were so lucky to be able to do some snowshoes trekking around Svolvaer. Despite the short daylight time, we were still able to make it to the top of the hill and caught some beautiful scenaries. The tour...MoreWonderful to hear that your snowshoe trip did meet your expections. You are most welcome back for another adventure - maybe during summer? :) And thanks a lot for the feedback!

Over 100 unique works of art by, amongst others, Gunnar Berg, Even Ulving, Thorolf Holmboe, Ole Juul, Otto Sinding. Major exhibition of paintings by Karl Erik Harr, one of Norway's most celebrated pictorial artists. See Frank A. Jenssen's multimedia masterpiece consisting of sounds from nature, music and images from Lofoten. The programme has been seen by over a million people and has been screened all over Europe.
There are many galleries to visit in Henningsvaer, but I would say this one is really nice. 3 floors with Lofoten painters and photographers throughout the decades. There´s also an interesting movie about the region.
I liked particularly the B&W photography exhibition on codfishing.
On the bottom floor, you can also buy souvenirs.

Lofoten Krigsminnemuseum
Wow...this little city punches well above its weight in innovative historic displays/museums. The small war museum is packed with military treasures from the world wars and is worth a visit. So to is the recreated fishing village found across the bridge on the little island in the harbour ( see attached photos). I learned a lot about how stockfish ( dried cod) has been and is the main industry that has made Norway what it is.

Sea Eagle safari from Henningsvaer. Visit these majestic birds on the rugged coastline of Lofoten. In a giant rubber dinghy - a mere meter above the sea's surface - you can experience nature in a brand new way. Nordland is land of the sea eagles. Here you will find the world’s most compact stock of these majestic birds of prey that can have a wing span of up to two metres. We operate daily sea eagle Safaris off the coast of Henningsvaer, allowing you to experience the sea eagles at close quarters in their natural environment. We search for other species of bird life e.g Puffins and Comorants. If we are lucky we could even see seals and other sea mammal life.
Wether it was the lack of sea eagles (we only saw 2),but our expectations were not met.
True, the skipper has no control over the number of birds around, but, if this is not the high season for watching them, then they should 1. not go out 2. not charge the full amount (which is not cheap). I think the operator in Svolvaer is probably better organized going to the Trollfjord.
