I coordinated a 5-course black tie dinner for 47 people at relatively short notice (one month). Beth, their event organiser, was very helpful and quickly provided all of the background information I needed. The menu options were good and it wasn’t difficult to decide on 3 canapés, 2 starters, 3 mains, 2 Deserts, cheese and biscuits. The wine list is sensibly priced as are drinks from the bar. On the day the waiting staff did very well laying out the tables and serving the food, Martin and Tina in the kitchen delivered great food promptly and on hot plates; the bar staff were not only efficient but appeared to enjoy the disco as well. The disco and DJ were contracted separately but based upon a suggestion from HCGC. It is a modern building and easy to add décor as required. All personnel were very professional and all guests had a brilliant night. I’ve no doubt we will go there again - scoring them 10/10 is rare for me but it was excellent.

St Albans Cathedral

St Albans Cathedral is the oldest site of continuous Christian worship in Britain. It stands over the place where Alban, the first martyr, was buried after giving his life for his faith over 1700 years ago.The building itself is a blend of architectural styles spanning a millennia and contains recycled Roman bricks from Verulamium. Of special interest are the 13th century wall paintings, a rare watching loft and the shrines of Saint Alban and Amphibalus, the priest who converted Alban to Christianity.

What can I say- it's fantastic. Steeped in history, but beautiful as well. Loved the painted ceiling, stained glass - and the St Albans version of Bayeux tapestry, telling story of Cathedral. NB Excellent gift shop on site!

Visited on a whim when it was quiet. Found all the buildings freezing cold but to be fair a lot of that was down to other inconsiderate visitors leaving doors open despite there being signs asking that the doors be closed. The displays were very interesting however most of the interactive displays were broken or just not working. The staff seemed uninterested and certainly not welcoming in fact when we first entered we thought we were in the wrong place as we felt like intruders there was no welcome smile or "is this your first visit can I help?" We actually had to initiate conversation and then we gave up as it was so begrudgingly responded to. However all that said it is well worth a visit especially with 10 to 14 year olds as it has such interesting items on display.

A beautiful small town near to Harpenden and St Albans which is full of little hidden gems. The river lea passes through close to the Bull pub....plenty of excellent little independent shops and restaurants...my favourite part was visiting the old disused railway and platform that laid in ruin for over 40 years until several volunteers got together in 2009 and returned the very small part pictured to its old glory.Incidentally the wooden statue is George Bernard Shaw sat on the platform....their most famous train passenger.!! This is a very small museum which is housed in 2 rooms of the Manager's house of the old silk mill. It is very comprehensive and gives you a lot of detail about the archaeology and history of the village. It is only open at certain times, but we were lucky enough to be in the village when it was open and were given an excellent guided tour. The museum is free and run by volunteers. Well worth a visit

Since previous staff have left the rules seem to be made up as they go along. Was not happy with the service given so compalined to be told they are cancelling the wedding. Incredibly fake people which caused alot of stress to all concerned. If people choose a wedding here make sure you get everything in writing because the rules are made up as they go. Unfortunately the 2 people that made this venue in my opinion, no longer work there. When they were there there was no problems and nothing was too hard to do or accommodate. Such a shame.

Verulamium Park

Verulamium Park is a public park in the City of St Albans, Hertfordshire. Along with being a wide open area for recreational purposes, the park includes all that is left of a Roman settlement from which the park takes it's name. The large amount of history on view in the park has resulted in a museum dedicated to the Historic Roman heritage upon which St Albans has been built. The park also includes a long list of facilities including; Tennis courts, sand courts, football and cricket pitches, An athletics track and field facility, a golf course, childrens play area, outdoor childrens Splash Park, a large leisure facility called westminster lodge Leisure Centre which contains a gym and indoor swimming pool, a cafe, a large lake fed by the River Ver, plenty of provision for picnics and family activities and what is thought to be the oldest and one of the most famous public houses in England called The Fighting Cocks. Overlooking the entire area is the St Albans Abbey, a large Cathedral dating back to 1077AD. The park is an epicentre of greenery and wildlife and it is a hub of social and recreational activity that the people of St Albans can be extremely proud of.

We left car in parking area here then wandered round the huge and beautiful park, with large lake (much bird life including a heron), and various Roman relics (NOT the theatre- you have to exit park by museum, cross main road and it's dead opposite.) We visited the Roman mosaic / hypocaust (free: in its own little building); no time to see museum but it's an interesting 'Roman' style of architecture!

The local knowledge is great, along with the exhibits. They are varied from the town to its forming, period clothing to the Football club, it's on two floors and a great place to take the family for an afternoon. More than I thought.
Depending on what you parts read and how long it takes you it will be between 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours.
