I have heard a lot of D-day and the invasion of Normandie. But I have never heard of Operation Dragoon before standing in the quite american cementry on a French boulevard in Draguignan.
Here stands the headstones of 860 soldiers from the Second World War. 836 has Latin crosses,24 the Stars of David, and 61 unknown. All soldiers who lost their lives on the 15. of August 1944, where U.S. Seventh Army landed on Riviera Beaches and Parachuters from Infantry Battalion liberated Draguignan. The guide made the history and some of the soldiers alive, telling the story about their lives, and how they were killed. They try to track every lost soul to memorate their sacrifice. We heard the story about Kenneth MCDougall, who was killed in action that day - of friendly fire. The wall of 294 soldiers missing and the Chapel makes a deep impression, and the great bronze relief map gives a good impression of the vital operations, that led to victory. A must see.

this museum is something to see if you're into history and war craft ant artillery, its an amazing insight to the world wars and good fun, i would only recommend going for a short time, it did get a bit boring mainly because it lacked...MoreMeeth, Thank you for your opinion. We have prefered to give more importance to the objects and let you touch them in reality, than to pay some video systems. Regards'

We had a day in Draguignan and thought this museum might be just the thing to fill some time. We were all impressed by how well organised it is and how helpful staff are. For starters, admission was free because it was heritage day/week. Then the woman at reception urged us to take a comprehensive English translation of the many exhibits. This made the tour through extra easy. Highly recommend taking time to see how France and the region used to live.

What was once an army camp where sergeants were shouting orders is now a quiet location in the city . Soldiers quarters converted in housing units with a new large library/ cultural center buikd alongside . There's a movie theater and also places for business . And in the middle a quiet park .
This is prove that with a good vision and the political will to invest in it nice things can be done .

When visiting Draguignan, do not miss the Tour de l'Horloge. Once you have climbed the stairs, you are rewarded with a great view of the town and the surrounding landscape. Even though we have always visited Draguignan in the height of the tourist season (late July/August), we have only met a few visitors, so do not miss the opportunity of this splendid view of the Provencal scenery.

This dolmen is not too far off of a main road beside a home but open to the public. It's worth a few minutes to view and take a photo. The capstone is quite large.

This winery produces some of the most renowned red wines in all of Provence.
I was happy to participate in the fête de vendanges of this very hospitable Domaine. Good meal and interesting tour. Wines of new winemaker recommended.

have visited hundreds if not thousands of churches in my life - this is one of the worst. Not welcoming, no atmosphere, looks like a cheap building site inside, cracks on the outside of the building. Bells play beautiful melody at noon - best experienced at a café or bistro table on the market square around the corner.
