I went to Odisha Maritime Museum. This excellent new museum, sitting on the bank of the Mahanadi River, focuses on Odisha's centuries-old maritime history of trade and boat-building. The partially interactive displays walk you through the Kalingas maritime activities, rituals and tools. It is great place to go.

Located at Saranga village in Dhenkanal, is this large rock-cut image of Lord Vishnu carved during the early 9th Century. The location is right on the bank of river Brahmani. This protected site is the largest such exposed rock cut structure in the horizontal position (measuring 51 feet in length) in the whole of India. Sarang is located 54 KM towards west from District head quarters Dhenkanal. 7 KM from Parjang and 111 KM from State capital Bhubaneswar. We traveled from Angul to saranga by road (National Highway 23 and National Highway 200) and after "Jawahar Navodaya Vidyala" there is a narrow but tarred village road that leads to Brahmini rive banks. Travel 1100 Metres through this road and the location is right where the road ends. The place bears a deserted look as there are a very few visitors at any point of time. You may even take a bath in this river provided you are too good at swimming. Also near by Sarang is the Asta Shambu temple complex at Kualo.

How many times we find a temple right in the middle of a river bed? Accessible only during the summer season, Singhanath temple dates back to 8th or 9th century AD. It is situated on a small island and can be reached by vehicles with 4 WD. The surroundings are very quiet and the experience will be unique.
