Was apparently closed upon arrival, lucky 4wds can drive around the signs.
Best thing about the location was the kangaroos and emus, the rock formations are nothing special if you have been further north.
If you have e the time it's worth a look otherwise keep going north.

An incredible history this house has. Apart from the fact it was carved out of rock, by three women, the labour, the love and the achievement. There is even a swimming pool within the house. It was lovely to have a tour for just the...MoreThankyou for your review. Glad you enjoyed your visit.

Josephine's Gallery is a 'MUST SEE' whilst in Coober Pedy. Wander through the impressive ABORIGINAL ART GALLERY, play a DIDGERIDOO, choose a beautiful OPAL from our extensive range or KISS A KANGAROO. Our passion is raising orphaned kangaroos and we offer you the opportunity to see these amazing creatures up close and maybe even hold a baby. Feeding times daily at 12 noon and 5:30pm. Don't be late!
We attended the 5.30pm kangaroo feeding. Store was closed and the air conditioning was not working. The guide was knowledgable and very talkative so she shared many stories and the time went fast. Kangaroos are well kept and place is clean and look after. A good experience.

The Umoona Opal Mine is an absolute must see in Coober Pedy! There’s a free underground museum with a lot of interesting information. I had a guided tour that included a little documentary, the old mine and a small underground home (they call it dugout). The tour guide was super nice und the information he provided was more than interesting! I actually learned a lot about Opal mining! The staff at the gift shop was also super nice and I purchased some pretty opal jewellery. I highly recommend this place, it’s definitely worth a visit!

Right next to Comfort Inn where we stayed and was recommended by them as well. Having teenagers and younger is it easy to keep them interested but this “Old Miners Mine” certainly kept them interested. We thought it was fascinating!

Working opal mine situated just 500m north of the town along the Stuart Highway. Open 6 days a week in off peak season and 7 days a week in peak seaason. Guided and self guided tours are available at our large underground reception area. See modern day equipment in action while on a guided tour with our experienced tour guides. Both tours are wheel chair accessible! See our showroom where you can buy souvenirs or high quality opal. We aim to give you an experience you will not forget.
Unlike some of the reviews here, I found the tour interesting and informative. It was surprising just how big the tunnels are. Opel mining is hard gig, tough way to earn a $. I work in the safety industry and whilst I felt safe, however I would suggest a simple safety brief i.e exist etc would be helpful. Overall, a positive experience, glad I did it.

An Underground church named after the Catacombs in Rome. A place of serenity where week by week we tell others the great news that Jesus still forgives sin for those who seek him.
After visiting the Serbian Church, I had high expectations. This was so much of a let down. It did not even feel spiritual. I love visiting churches, and so unique, underground ones. This felt like a pre school effort. Love the fact it is underground, loved the air tunnels, the rest, not so much.

A unique attraction with the church entirely cut out of rock, like the majority of homes in the town. Contains beautiful sculptures, baptismal font and amazing people that care for what is an extraordinary church. You simply have to see this structure.

Worth the visit as part of the Breakaways loop - part of an overall 5 star drive and experience. It may not be the Great Wall of China but it is one of the longest artificial structures in the world.

This place is a must see when in Coober Pedy. Was setup as an underground back packers years ago and there are plenty of tales of parties, debauchery and fun. You could only imagine on visiting the place the stories the walls would entail. Devastated I wasn't made aware of this 15 years ago. :D
