Tra Su Bird Sanctuary

Reviewed By Ilana_Banana - Sydney, Australia

We visited here with Ms San Tours. Ms San ensured we were in our own boats, not sharing with other tourists. Photos do not do this place justice! The setting was tranquil and the flora was spectacular and there were an abundance of blooming water lilies. At times we felt we were floating on grass rather then water due to the vibrant green covering on the canal surface. The only thing I would change would be to have the boat trips be slower and longer. Particularly the motorised boats went too fast to really allow us to adequately appreciate the surroundings or to get a good enough look at some of the amazing bird-life.

We had a chance to go through this market on our way to board a sampan to go down the river. The market was interesting with local fruits, vegetables, and meats and many things being cooked. Smelled good as they were cooking. Everyone smiled when we went by, and there was no pressure to purchase as in some places. Enjoyable.

Hang Chau Tourist

Went up the river from Chau Doc to Phnom Penh with no problems. Cost of the one-way trip was USD$25 for foreigners (non-Vietnamese). Staff are helpful and the boat was very clean, including the bathroom. You get a bottle of water and some snacks for the ride.
The only issue I had was booking directly with the company - I emailed them way in advance but no one replied my email, so I had to eventually ask my tour guide in Chau Doc to help me book a ticket. The boat leaves from the jetty located just in front of the Victoria Chau Doc Hotel.

Blue Cruiser

Transportation provided by high speed boat between Chau Doc and Phnom Penh Cambodia and Phnom Penh and Chau Doc Vietnam. Modern 16 to 50 passenger boats also available for private charter for trips around the Mekong Delta.

Reviewed By Zouppy - Richmond, Surrey

Our trip from PP to Chau Doc was booked with this company by our UK travel agent. When we arrived we were told we had to travel on another boat from a company called Mandarin Cruises. All fine but the boat was so full the only seats were hard benches outside. Very noisy (you could not speak) and we were forced to wear life jackets for 5 hours.
I suspect Blue Cruiser did a deal with Mandarin because we were only 5 passengers and it was not worth running a boat just for us. Understandable but we had booked and paid for the trip so not reasonable to consolidate us with another firm at our discomfort.
Still a good way to travel to Vietnam from Cambodia but beware of this ruse

After travelling Asia in many hotel for 4 months arriving at the Victoria hotel was a breath of fresh air. What a gorgeous hotel this is. Situated in a gorgeous area with the rivers meeting together. Excellent service, beautifully appointed room and an excellent reservation manager who upgraded up to his best room due to a nightmarish trip that we had coming in from Cambodia
We have stayed in many 5 star hotels internationally and I must admit that this one deserves a five star all the way for everything. I will return one day for sure

Phuoc Dien Temple

Reviewed By John W R - East London, Eastern Cape, South Africa

This Temple (Hang Pagoda) is located about 2 km from Chau Doc Riverside and is located on the Sam Mountain Slopes. This temple started as a bamboo structure and was upgraded over the years after local residents saw religious relevance to the site. From the street entrance there are several terraces with buildings and stupas and one needs to climb to a height of about 300 meters to the temple. A fairly steep climb but there are lots of stops along the way with beautiful views of rice fields while looking towards the Cambodia border which is not far. There are numerous mostly white deity's and statures in the Gardens and along the main pathway leading to the top. There is also a garden with a pond about half way up. In the temple there is a main hall with Buddha statues and smaller halls to the side with displays and two caves the first of which it is said to have housed snakes and which is a part of the temples history. This cave is today barricaded about 10 m in for safety reasons. Today these caves are devoted to worship and contain relics and statues. The architecture is typical Vietnamese with brick red curved roofs with corner scrolls and dragons. A very attractive temple worth a visit.
