A tour throughout the history of the Cross of Caravaca from the 16th to the 19th century in Germany, Austria, Poland, France, Czech Republic, Italy and the Netherlands. The small copies that are shown in this exhibition arrived in those countries either through some Religious Orders, or carried there by pilgrims who had been drawn to Caravaca and itsmiraculousCross and had decided to pay it a visit. Tradition, culture and religion blend into one another in these unique rooms, where the ineffaceable trace of theCross of Caravaca around the world is shown on their stone walls. This exhibition contains information that has been translated into English, French and German and soon, also into Italian, but we have also gathered data directly from sources written in Czech and Polish.
If you are interested in the history of the cross of Caravaca, this is a must. It is very small but full of fascinating facts.with a very personalised service.
The lady owner does not speak English but don't be put off. She will get her daughter who speaks very good English to take you around and answer all your questions.
There is no entrance fee but you can leave a donation which we certainly did.

Amazing place in the backstreets of Caravaca. There is a video in English about the history of the famous wine horses and a little about the fabulous decorated outfits for the horses. There are several full size horses dressed in the hand embroidered outfits. The place itself is steeped in history with a lovely staircase.
You cannot miss this if you go to Caravaca. The little train will drop you off and pick you up in the square!

we came here by chance and it is delightful. Very quiet, peaceful and not at all touristy, well not in early March anyhow! There are some very unusual buildings on Calle de la Iglesia which are built on stilts looking out across the countryside and overlooking what seemed to be a stage. We walked up to the Ermita as well where the views are great but unfortunately the church isn't open except for services. There was a weird hooded statue in the square by the main church. Unfortunately looked a bit like a KKK figure but it turns out to be a statue of a Holy Week penitent, a bit scary! There is also a old jail and the town just a lovely place to wander through.

The climb up to the Basilica is well worth the effort. Once at the top, you are rewarded with stunning views and of course the Basilica itself, which is gorgeous on the outside, and very serene inside. There are more opulent Basilica's in Spain, but of course this one, is one of the most important. Whether you are religious or not, it's a must to see in Carvava de la Cruz.
Be warned though, it shuts on the dot of 1400 and doesn't open until 1700. We go there with 15 mins to go, so were lucky.

We travelled to the vineyard only to discover that they were closed for tours. However a very nice guy came and served us and gave us tasters of several wines. We like the wine and will return later in the year.

Segway is a great means to see the old town of Caravaca. Our guide, Juan-Luis, was a lovely man who made my 15 year old daughter and her friend very comfortable on their Segways. We went on a tour of the old town, a nearby natural park, and on up to the old Monastery of Caravaca. Overall the tour lasted around 1:30 hours and Juan-Luis is a capable guide if you speak Spanish. His english is not great but to be honest the main enjoyment of using a Segway is the fun of riding them around and the looks you get!
Overall a great day out and we'd definitely recommend it. Unfortunately they only have 4 Segway machines...

This museum is really worth a visit. It is a bit on the edge of town, but there is a certain amount of parking on the road close by, if you do not want to walk to it. Admission is 4€ (3€ for pensioners!) and more than worth every centimo.
An audio guide in English is available from the reception and this explains well the various rooms and exhibits. On the first floor are two rooms that contain examples of the costumes worn by the participants in the Moors & Christians parades. They really are stunning!
Then on the ground floor there is a room dedicated to the costumes worn by the famous Wine Horses when they are run through the town in May. Some of these are displayed on a full size model horse and others in display cases around the room. The level of detail on these has to be seen to be believed. They contain intricate gold and silver thread designs, and representations of the faces of local people that are almost photographic in quality. It is hard to believe that they are actually embroidery in incredibly fine thread.
Finally, there is a media presentation theatre where you are shown a film that brings everything together.
We really did thoroughly enjoy our visit!
