The Boatshed Kayaks

the Boatshed Kayaks, was set up by Richard Clark in 2000, on his property on the edge of Lake Karapiro. We offer a number of different kayaking and stand up paddle board options from our great Waterfalls trip to our evening glow worm experience, just flick through our website to get a better idea for whats available. Lake Karapiro offers an exellent venue with sheltered waters and 15 km of lake to explore. making it a safe and beautiful environment to try something new. our guides and instructors are fully qualified in both flat water and graded river paddleing so if your wanting to explore some of the lower sections of the waikato river between Cambridge and Hamilton youll be in safe hands. The Boatshed kayaks is also involved in multisport training and hire and has been training grade 2 paddlers for over 8 years, with a huge number of paddlers experiencing their introduction to kayaking through The Boatshed. The ethos at the Boatshed has always been on getting people out there paddling, young and old, and therefore growing kayaking as a sport or recreational activity.

Right from the start this was a great experience. Following a comprehensive safety briefing and tuturial we set off on our double kayak (singles also available) to cross the lake and enter a magical world of lagoons and Waterfalls. Just quietly watching the birdlife was an added bonus. A must do in Cambridge.

Tivoli Cinema

I go here weekly either on my own or with family members. I always get my card stamped each time so every 10th movie is free. Soon ads up. Tivoli is next to Bunnings in Lake Street number 32. Cinema phone number is 078235064 you can leave a message for a booking and pay when you get there. No credit cards accepted. Toilets are spotless. Luxury cinema with chandeliars and best coffee. You may order Antipasta platter around $25 or you can have a wine or beer. Can take these into the movies. There are 3 cinema rooms and upstairs is a conference room for up to 50 people where you can book either Tivoli or Cambridge i-SITE for a smaller function or business meeting. Food at cafe downstairs cake slices, club sandwiched or ice-cream in a tub. Chocolates and lollies while you are watching a movie. Love this place.

My partner and I had this tour booked the day after a wedding, and though we were feeling pretty tired the tour was engaging and helped wake us up. Our guide/driver, Aaron, was enthusiastic and entertaining, not to mention an incredibly skilled navigator. We both learned quite a bit about the Waikato river, as well as Cambridge, Karapiro, and Taupo. Couldn't have asked for a better tour. Thanks for everything!

Cambridge Farmers' Market

Good farmers market with quality fresh produce and food stuff. It's not a big market but nice for a relaxing Saturday morning. It's a shame that it was raining when we visited the market, it hasn't dampened the spirits of the locals who still set up their stores despite the rain.
If you are looking for some fresh produce and baked goods, don't miss the opportunity and visit this market on a Saturday.

I had a delightful time travelling around the South Island with Phillip and his assistant, Paul, and the five other guests, on the 2016 winter landscape photography workshop. Phillip is a superb landscape photographer; however, during the workshops, he almost never pulled out his camera. Rather, his focus was entirely on his guests to ensure that we got to the best locations at the best times to take the best possible shots of some pretty phenomenal landscapes. And, to top it off, he arranged for us to have the chance to do some aerial photography over the Fox Glacier.
Phillip and Paul wanted all of us to have a grand holiday as well, so we were well-fed and well-caffeinated (which meant that we visited some charmingly quirky coffee shops and cafes up and down the South Island). They also kept us amused with Kiwi facts and anecdotes (some of which might even be true) as we drove between locations. In short, this was a fabulous photography workshop and a delightful introduction to the South Island of New Zealand.

Maungakawa Scenic Reserve

Reviewed By David P - Cambridge, New Zealand

This hilltop reserve was originally a sanatorium for tuberculosis sufferers, hence it's alternative name of Sanatorium Hill. The sanitorium has long gone, but traces remain.
The road up is sealed, but winding and fairly narrow. You need to watch out for cylists and runners as well as other motorists. Cyclists and runners? Cambridge is the home of several high-performance sport facilities, and athletes train everywhere.
The views on the way up are best noted and passed by. There's not much room for stopping and the views from the top are better anyway.
At the top there is room for carparking, and neatly-kept lawns for picnics if you want one.. The views are extensive, over the Waikato countryside and Cambridge town. They can be enjoyed in safety and at leisure, and if rain is coming, the sight is dramatic.
There are also walking tracks if you fancy a walk through regenerating bush. There's quite a lot of it, but the walks are not major and can be done in sneakers without trouble, at least if it hasn't been raining. The tracks are just tracks, and can be a bit muddy. In Spring, the bird life flocks in, feeding on the nectar in the cherry flowers. That's a great sight in itself.

This is a wonderful park/lake to visit especially for people with dogs! We came here with our canine companion after indulging at the farmers markets.
The enormous trees are lovely and we enjoyed the lily pads with pink, white and yellow flowers. Could hear the symphony of frogs croaking. Even saw a beautiful kingfisher! Sad to see a couple dead carp fish in the water. Some areas stagnant water. However in other parts, lovely cascades, mini falls.

Was extremely interesting to have a good look around this place, having of course only heard about. Had no idea it was such huge facility catering for not only professionals, but the general public including handicapped people. Well worth taking a tour as so much was explained that you wouldn't know by just wandering around by yourself.
