The island is small. Along the western beach you have some resorts and B&B's. That's it. On the rest of the island there are some rural villages with rubber trees around. Really relaxing!

Bangsak beach is great for long walks especially around sunset, the West facing aspect gives the best opportunity for those who want to experience spectacular Thai sunsets.
There are several restaurants hidden amongst the trees which gives shade from the sun whilst you dine.
Definitely recommend a visit.

I went to this place to buy a suit, and what I got was a great Kashmir suit + shirt + tie for a very good price!

This beach stretches for 11km and is totally unspoiled. Beautiful white sand, warm water, very safe swimming with low waves. Plenty of beach restaurants hidden in the trees.
But be aware Thai law (post 1 Feb 18) forbids hotels and restaurants providing beach umbrellas. Bit there is plenty of shade under the trees.

We went in the evening to this market. Was good fun, yes all the same goods you can buy elsewhere but the market has a nice chilled atmosphere. Food was really tasty and well cooked - I am normally weary of eating street food abroad due to the hygiene issues but we had no problems. Would recommend for an evening visit.

A 15 minute taxi ride for around 300 baht from The Sands in Khao Lak we found The White Sand Beach. A picture perfect beach with calm waters and white sand. Its full of hermit crabs which makes much fun for kids and adults as well.
A good selection of 4 restaurants on the beach. We tried both the big one at the "entrance" White Sand Beach which was okay and the Smile Beach Resort which also was okay and the staff here were really nice. The kids loved it.
Take a break here, see the sunset and eat some food right on the beach.

Was told about this site by our hotel manager and decided to go the very same day after hearing about the local tsunami history. The locals were very nice, and welcoming. Paid our respects at the memorial. The views of the beach were amazing, untouched, spoke with locals who were fishing. Local shopkeepers are very friendly too.

We had a swell time just walking through this day market and stopped to try little delicacy that were available all along the walk through. Again you will only see friendly smiling faces and every merchant trying his or her best to convince you that you will get the best price here. Barter is part of the every day life of the Thais and you should always offer them a fair deal if you think you need to close the sale, this bargaining of goods is done in a very friendly manner, remembering that every one has to come out of it happy and contented,
A good break from all the crowded shopping centers in Bangkok and a nice way to see Thailand from the ground up.

Short walk from car park, along a rough track. Wonderful plants, butterflies, tall trees and flowers. Very slippery rocks around the waters edge. Little fish in the water which nibble your toes. Travelled there by tuk tuk and walked back to resort, stopping at river restaurant on the way. Walked through rubber tree plantation too. You could spend the day there swimming and relaxing in the sun or shade. Or just walk to the falls have a look and walk back to car park in 30 mins. Wonderful spot for a picnic.
