Bandar Lampung (Indonesian: Kota Bandar Lampung) is the capital and a major economic hub in the province of Lampung on the southern tip of Sumatra island, Indonesia. It was called Tanjungkarang-Telukbetung, the names of the two major sections of the city, before being renamed in 1983. For immigrants and travelers from Java, the city of Lampung is the entry point to Sumatra, especially before the construction of the major harbor at Bakauheni, just south of Bandar Lampung. Bandar Lampung is served by the Radin Inten II International Airport, with flights to Jakarta located northwest of the city. The city and South Lampung Regency (which borders the city on its northern and eastern sides) are major transmigrasi recipients for those seeking respite from the crushing population densities and traffic nightmare of Jakarta, yet able to take advantage of proximity. As such, its population composition is far more cosmopolitan for a provincial capital of its size.

So i stayed in lampung for 3 days and went to pahawang on the second day. We booked the trip via RR tour ( pahawanglampun02 on instagram ). Since i ordered a private trip and it was on monday we paid for boat, snorkeling gear, entrance fees and i forgot what else. In total we spent 750,000 IDR. Compare to join trip on the weekend where they charged 160k per pax, 750k might seems expensive but it was worth it and still cheaper compare to jakarta’s standard of entertainment option. Anyway it was quiet that day on the ketapang harbour. Me and hubby bought our lunch at the harbour (nasi rames style) around 15k each. We took uber from our hotel (batiqa) and it only cost 80k++ idr which is cheap for sure.
We boarded around 8-8.30 i guess and we went to 2 snorkeling spots before we stopped at pahawang for our lunch. It was gloomy and cloudy and minimum sunlight were shown; but it feels serene and peaceful because not much tourist and we feel like it was all open to ourselves. Visibility was okay for snorkeling, not to bright, i love the fact there are a lot of fish even without putting bread to get their attention, but the coral isn’t that great. I dont mind, me and hubby enjoy our relaxation time and we always float around semi sleeping in every snorkeling spot. It was kinda raining very lightly in pahawang island where we stopped and ate the lunch we bought at ketapang. It was great since we were hungry. We spent some times to laze around and enjoy the beach to ourselves. Then around 12/1 we headed to he last spot, on this spot it is interesting because u can see nemo. Again, not much on the coral but i saw several which used by nemo and his clans to live in. You need to dive a bit deeper to see them; not much but i really enjoy. Aside from nemo a lot of other fish too; visibility is okay but since it is gloomy not much to see. Then we headed to the best part which is ‘pasir timbul’. In the morning you dont see the land but in the afternoon the land and sand will be visible. This is the best place because despite not much sun is around me and my husband probably spent hours to laze around. We hang out, talked, sun bathed, swam, etc until we get sun burnts which hurst like hell but worth it!! Then around 3.30/4 we headed back to ketapang and took ‘angkot’ back home which cost 15k each (so cheap) and then we took gocar from the last stop to our hotel. The best part is the angkot stop in the area where u can buy locals souvenirs (snacks etc), and we bought some for moms.
I really enjoyed our time in lampung and pahawang as people are friendly. To me it was a great short escape from Jakarta and the flight was fast and offer great view too. Price was of course it is cheaper than Jakarta but we are so happy since we get to really relaxed and do what we want privately

if I have been engaged in hot weather during the day in Bandar Lampung, then in the evening I have to find one place that could be as a sanctuary from the hot weather. The place which is capable as a sanctuary is Boemi Kedaton Mall or in the tongue of the Bandar Lampung citizens is MBK and not BKM. The MBK has lots of choices to buy from food, beverages, and trousers, shirt, Books so on and so on.

Went to the beach with my extended family on July 9, 2016. Took about 1.5 hour drive from our hotel in central Bandar Lampung and I was told that's about normal. Traffic and road condition was mostly OK, found some potholes and some unpaved road when entering the beach. SUV or high ground clearance car is recommended.
Entering the beach, we paid an entry fee of IDR 10k/car. Then to rent a gazebo we paid IDR 50k/gazebo and a kid's pool float (made of a car tire's inner tube) of IDR 10k/float. When we got there it was quite crowded as it's just several days away from Idul Fitri holidays.
The beach had white sand, but on the ground there were plenty of small coral pieces so it's kinda painful to walk on it. The water near the beach when we got there was kinda murky so we couldn't see the bottom when we walked. I wouldn't recommend to swim there because it's quite deep and the coral. There was a small water park (I think it's called Tong Air), and you can cross over to several Islands nearby using a traditional fisherman's boat for a fee. There's also public restrooms and showers available for a fee of IDR 5k/person (quite rudimentary), small shops/warungs and restaurants. You can also climb to the top of a hill there (I think it's called Krakatau View) so you can get bird's eye view of the beach. Parking spots were near the beach.
Overall, I'd recommend this beach for those looking for adventurous places (go visit the Islands, etc). For families with small kids, not so sure.

I visit this place, the location is not too far from the city. Unfortunately, road to the location are poor, so you need to ready with this.
The beach is facilitated with many gazebo, also small shops for souvenirs, snack, and swimming accesories for rent.
The view is okay, but I think other beach in Lampung offering a better place for swimming. If you juat want to see the view, this is okay, or just sightseeing with a rent boat.
The price to go in per people is 15k IDR, and car will get charge around 10k IDR. I think this is not too worth with what you pay, even though it still cheap.

Bandar Lampung is a pleasant city with some nice bay views but it is seriously lacking in 'sights'. It boasts very little architecture from the colonial period and it is impossible to recommend any 'must-see' buildings. Perhaps the one most likely to interest tourists is the Thay Hin Bio Temple, a colourful and attractive Chinese temple that remains an active place of worship.
Jalan Ikan Kakap (Kakap Fish Street) is the closest thing Bandar Lampung has to a 'Chinatown'. Most of the shops along this street have Chinese shop-keepers. Some of them sell local specialty snacks from Lampung province. There is really not that much to see but it is one of Bandar Lampung's more interesting streets and it can be easily combined with a trip to the nearby Krakatoa Monument. The highlight of a trip to this street will be a visit to the temple. It is of no great antiquity. The whole of this part of the city was levelled by the 1883 tidal-wave which resulted from the Krakatoa eruption. But it is the oldest and most attractive Chinese temple in town, and probably this side of Palembang. Its red and gold mural paintings and snaking incense smoke make it an atmospheric place to check out. It is kept in good condition by the many devotees from Bandar Lampung's lively Chinese community.

It is recommended to come on bright mornings, when the butterfly are actively flying around... I came by at approximately 2PM, almost raining day, and still see beautiful butterflies...

The place is a symbolic gate that tell us we are to enter Bandar Lampung, which is the capital of Lampung province, the southernmost province of the island of Sumatra, Indonesia. Nothing much to do at the gate. If you want to take pictures in front of it, then you have to park your cars somewhere nearby, which is quite not easy to find.
