Vaxholm is known as the “gateway to Roslagen” because it is a hub for travel to most of the islands in the Swedish archipelago. Vaxholm itself is comprised of about 70 small islands, all of which can be explored on foot. There are shops, restaurants, and cafés for those looking to take a coffee break. For those interested in military history, a ferry runs to the tiny island of Vaxholmen, home to a major 17th century citadel also known as Vaxholm Castle (Vaxholms Kastell in Swedish).

Vaxholm is a cosy little town in the heart of Stockholm?s archipelago. This is where you?ll find the distinguished Waxholms Hotell, which boasts a fantastic view over the Vaxholm Bay and a memorable culinary experience. The kitchen prepares seasonal dishes with the very best ingredients. It specialises in using the archipelago?s own delicacies. Try, for example, grilled salmon and crayfish with chilli and garlic butter and served with risotto; or poached cured cod with egg, horseradish, parsley and melted butter. On Sundays, you can try the hotel?s delicious Sunday brunch.
This charming restaurant provided high quality food with the best view of Vaxholm Castle. It was easy parking here, and nice walk along the harbor to this hotel restaurant. Classic decoration make it feel very local, the food and service all good. The best thing you can sit toward the castle on the lake.

Hembygdsgårdens café and restaurant in Vaxholm is open from may to september. Enjoy good food, wine and homebaked pastries from their own bakery. Situated just by the water with a stunning wiew of the inlet of Vaxholm archipelago. Don´t miss the muséum where they show you how a life of a fisherman used to be. Such a beautiful place to have a cup of tea or breakfast. Charming atmosphere and a beautiful cakes display with lilies. Personnel very helpful and kind. Water is free of charge. Everything is just so well designed to give you maximum comfort. From the garden you can enjoy the splendid scenery. Highly recommendable to come to Vaxholm just for this.

In addition to the great views across Vaxholm harbour, Winberg's boasts a fine tented space for eating Swedish classic dishes which we enjoyed to the full: hamnburgers - spelt with an extra "n" in honour of the location and playing on the Swedish word for "harbour" - and "skagens" which consists of prawns on bread in a thick dressing. Lovely grub shared with a lot of happy eaters and some of the friendliest serving staff ever I've encountered. The beer tasted good too!

On our first night in Vaxholm we chose to eat here based on recommendations. We were not disappointed as the quality of my wife's chicken dish and my fish - hake - were both high. Good if expensive wine. Excellent service.

Excellent lunch a regular wendsday. Got down rather later after one o clock. Mixed grilled plate with tasty sallad. This restaurang have excellent sence of food and drinks in this town. It´s a pity that it is placed rather shaggy close to traffic and nearly no sea side on this island. The menu offers loads of vegitarian and ecologicol alternatives, I am defentliy coming back soon.

We as a group entered into the restaurant.Very crowded. The food was not ready.
We waited till the Buffet Lunch was made ready and arranged. The location of the restaurant was very good, but restaurant was small. The buffet arrangement was
not systematic.I know I cannot compare with an Indian restaurant in India. But this was not very decent.Since we are very hungry ,many of us have gulped the food irrespective of food quality.I should congratulate restaurant ownership for maintainf two seperate rest rooms within the small restaurant. That was a great relief to many. This Restaurant may be categorised as a Fast Food restaurant.

We dined here on our last night in Sweden, after a visit to pretty Vaxholm, as ‘something different’. And it certainly was!
The establishment is a private house and there are only three dining tables. We started with a homemade cocktail on the verandah followed by a three course meal inside. The menu is limited and diners need to agree on what they are going to eat, as everyone has the same. We had one bottle of wine, and one of our party had dessert.
The entrée was prawns in a sauce, the main was white fish with roe, and the third course was baked cheese. The chef was running into the garden to get fresh herbs for each dish, all of which were quite small.
It was pleasant but the cost was not – for four people, just under 5000 krone.
Give it a go if you have a big wallet.
