Ullapool (/ˈʌləpuːl/; Scottish Gaelic: Ulapul, [ˈuɫ̪apʰuɫ̪]) is a town of around 1,500 inhabitants in Ross-shire, Scottish Highlands. Despite its small size it is the largest settlement for many miles around and an important port and tourist destination. The North Atlantic Drift passes Ullapool, moderating the temperature. A few Cordyline australis or New Zealand cabbage trees are grown in the town and are often mistaken for palms.

We ate lunch here on recommendation from the lass at Tourist Information. I thought the place looked lovely and always love the idea of a bookshop being combined with a lunch spot. When we arrived however we were unsure whether to seat ourselves or wait to be seated and staff kept walking past us. We eventually sat ourselves in the bar and a waiter brought menus and took drinks orders. I agree with previous reviews that the staff were not exactly welcoming or friendly and this was quite off putting. The food however was good and we enjoyed a chat with some nice people sitting close by to our table. We were also happy to find a place where we could take the dog in with us.
Good food but could certainly do with some training for the staff.

The Frigate Cafe and Bistro situated on the shorefront in Ullapool, Ross-shire. Open throughout the year offering mouthwatering food from Breakfast until Evening Dinner. Using the best of locally sourced produce wherever possible including locally caught Langoustines, Hand Dived Scallops and Ullapool Smoked Cheddar Cheese we seek to make memorable dishes with a very local flavour. Our extensive selections of home baking and puddings change daily and regularly include our home-grown fruit crumbles, creamy cakes, legendary strawberry tarts and our fruit scones, made at The Frigate on a daily basis using free range eggs from our own Happy Lochside Hens!
We stumbled across the " Frigate "and popped in for coffee after a long drive.
The welcome from the waitress was really good, the cafe was busy with lots of people, the coffee was wonderful, they had a selection of none dairy milks which was great and the food looked fab...We had actually gone to Ullapool to get some FRESH seafood! the restaurant we were heading too didn't look to welcoming and didn't appear to have any FRESH seafood on there menu...So we headed back to the "Frigate" we were not disappointed, they have a fantastic range of fresh tasty hot & cold food, there "super food salad" was a delight on the taste buds, the "Cullen skink" was full of flavour & packed with beautiful chunks of fish...
Great cafe, the staff all deserve a pat on the back as they were all very very helpful, the food is superb and the cafe very clean and comfortable...

The Arch Inn was a good choice for dinner as we had traveled from Portree to Ullapool on our way to Stornoway and saw good reviews. The reviews weren't wrong as the food was good and the atmosphere was very nice. I ended up having steak while my wife had the homemade pasta, the steak was the better of the two choices, but we did enjoy both.
We ended up with a good view of the water as we sat right at the window. The service was also very good and welcoming. Overall would differently recommend the arch inn restaurant.

We picked this restaurant thanks to trip advisor reviews.. We loved it, first we went to the inn side of it to have a drink, it was warm and cosy. The bar was quite small and the barman was more than helpful. He even let me taste one of the ales to help me chose a drink. Our table was booked and ready by 8 pm. The chowder was excellent but the Orkney mussels were even better. I wholeheartedly recommend the Ferry Boat Inn from the quality of the food to the lovely friendly staff. I would gladly go back any day.

The Argyll is a popular hotel with a restaurant and sociable bar. We offer a good quality, locally sourced menu of local Highland steaks, seafood, weekly specials and vegetarian options. The Argyll is a relaxed and friendly place with a well stocked bar, real ales and draught ciders, cocktail menu, good range of malt whisky and wines. We have a real log fire most of the year round and offer regular live music and entertainment.
Rooms were not sound proof, felt the walls were nothing more than plywood. we could hear people talking from next room, the floor boards creaking really loudly upstairs. Room was advertised w private bathroom but turns out not en suite, have to cross hallway to get there. No central hallway ,only one portable heater. Paid £105 for one night ,no breakfast included. I guess the price is driven by market demand ( good Friday). At this price , many other hotels in Scotland would have been much much better.

New owners, previously called Jasmin Tandoori.
If you have the craving you can go here but the food isn't particularly special, neither is the restaurant décor. Handy for the caravan site and ferry though.

The Gallery Cafe is situated above North West Outdoors on West Argyle Street, Ullapool in the Scottish Highlands. We are open from 9am till 4pm, but during the winter months the kitchen may sometimes close at 3pm to allow us to bake our yummy cakes and scones! We will still be serving teas, coffees, cakes and soup (if there's any left) untill 4pm! Why not come in for a breakfast, soup or just some tea and cake. We offer a range of delicious lunches including oven baked potatoes and tasty panini's! Our cakes are all homemade as is our soup.We are child friendly, there are 2 high chairs and changing facilities, we also have some toys to keep the wee ones occupied whilst the grown-ups enjoy their lunch. We also have a good selection of landscape photographs in our gallery section.
Visited here for lunch. Have tried on many past visits to Ullapool but always found it queued out. Today it was empty, and silent, which is off-putting for me. We had cooked breakfasts, which were fine, but having specifically asked for no black pudding we were still served it. The childrens meals came separately which wasn't ideal either. Wouldn't hurry back.

I visited this restaurant with my sister from Germany and elderly disabled mother. We had done a lot of research before booking this restaurant as we were driving from Inverness and we weren't disappointed. We sat in the conservatory which was sunny and bright. I had the large plate of mussels which I was advised would be too much for me but the mussels as well as the garlic sauce were delicious, and the best I have tasted. The bread they came with was a little dry for me but I didn't need it anyway and the chips we ordered didn't arrive but again they weren't needed. My sister had the seafood Ragu which she says was fantastic with lots of fish. The sauce was a little bland but otherwise excellent. I ordered a glass of rosé which came in a small bottle, chilled and was ok. We couldn't manage dessert but had decided to have ice cream from the high street. MY mother was in a wheelchair and the disabled toilet had a sliding door which didn't stay open so that was a little difficult.
All in all this restaurant is highly recommended and probably better value than the ones on the Main Street.

The Tea Store in Ullapool is a favorite for locals and tourists. We serve good value, good quality food, to eat in or take away. Having been taken over recently The Tea Store has had a wee facelift, the menu tweaked and some lovely new staff to serve you.
Although the food is nice, it's fairly overpriced and the staff are not exactly welcome or accommodating.
We ordered an "ultimate breakfast" which unfortunately was not ultimate enough to fill my other half. He had to order another slice of toast which cost an offensive £1.50.
The place is very dark. You have to serve yourself. Wouldn't recommend
