Things to do in Uithoorn

The location of this restaurant is quite enviable, along - albeit not the most scenic part of - the river Amstel. Despite this advantage, the restaurant was completely deserted on a Tuesday evening. Perhaps the ailing economy was to blame, but the quality of the food at Hertog Jan did not gave much reason to make a detour as we were to find out.
The appetizer, pasta with prawns, was OK, followed by a rather salty and simple Bouillon of mallard. The main dish of cod was almost burnt on and accordingly tough. The grand dessert was above expectations, but not enough to save the dinner.
The service was friendly and the atmosphere homelike in the positive sense.
We paid 95 Euro for two persons inclusing beer.
Average overall.

Okay... so the place needs decorated. But....these are the best pizzas you'll get in The Netherlands. The owners a bit of a local celeb too. Go with friends and relax. Top food.

We ate at the Irodion Greek restaurant with some friends last week and the food was fantastic and great value for money.
They had an English menu card and the staff were very friendly and helpful, would have no hesitation in recommending this lovely restaurant.
They also have an out door Terrace for when the weather is fine and nice, so if you are in the area go in and enjoy it.

Well, Uithoorn is not the most sexy place in the neighbourhood. We have been advised about this restaurant and finally appreciated. Meals are well prepared and good. We were positively surprised. I guess in the summer you can be close to the canal on the terrasse and that should be nice.

In our continuous quest for authentic Japanese food in The Netherlands that is not either Sushi or Keiseki, we ended up in the little town of Uithoorn this time. Friends had recommended we visit the Japanese restaurant Raku.
Uithoorn is located close to Schiphol Airport and Amstelveen, so it seems Raku targets the Japanese expat community that lives and works in this area. The offices of Canon are actually right around the corner. And even when we visited on a Saturday afternoon, the place was half filled with Japanese people. Always a good sign!
During the day, Raku serves ramen, and in the evening it turns into an Izakaya. The interior is simple, almost Spartan, with wooden tables and chairs and a long bar with an open kitchen were you can see the noodles being freshly made. The decoration on the wall consist mostly of Japanese advertisement. I have to say, it really felt like being in Japan.
Since we were here for lunchtime, we ordered ramen. They had all the classic varieties as well as multiple toppings. I choose the Miso Ramen with Char Siu. For 14 euro you can turn this into a set with rice, gyoza's and pickled vegetables. For drinks I ordered a nice cold Japanese beer.
The ramen was delicious. This is the way I experienced eating ramen in Japan. A quick, cheap and easy lunch dish. At other places like Ramen-Ya the food is dressed up a bit more and you are tempted to order more side dishes and drinks, to spend more time and money. At Raku you are done in 20-30 minutes and you can go on your way to your next appointment or work feeling fulfilled.

This is how it's done. Friendly but competent staff. Superbly interior: not too cramped, not too spacious, stunning view. The chef welcoming his guests personally. Amazing food presented even more amazingly. Superlatives don't do enough justice to the place to describe it....

A delicious, fast lunch in the Grand Café or an extensive dinner in the restaurant or the other way around.Alone, together or with an enormous group, everything is possible.Which choice you make however, we will surprise you again and again with a keen, professional service staff managed by our restaurant manager. And with refined, high-level dishes, subtly presented and always a feast for the eye. The executive chef and his white brigade are all skilled and passionate professionals. They use only day-fresh ingredients, supplied by well-known producers who combine quality and purity with craftsmanship and respect for traditions. Our chef is inspired by the French cuisine presented in a contemporary fashion. For more information and the menu we gladly refer to the website of Restaurant Meesters.
Located on the outskirts of Mijdrect, some 15 km from Amsterdam towards Utrect, this hotel and restaurant provides a fine dining experience for both locals and travelers. The restaurant sports a slightly romantic atmosphere and tables for two to four people. The menu contains typical Dutch dishes and as such does not distinguish itself from many other restaurants in the area. They do however offer a "masterpiece" (meesterwerk). This is a menu of four starters, four main dishes and four desserts - in sampling sizes. As the menu card does not specify exactly what dishes are included, I can only assume that this changes continuously through the seasons. Though sample sized, the meal was surprisingly filling - a fact that outweighs the somewhat steep price of 40 EUR pp. The wine list has an overweight of sweet from Italy, Spain and Portugal, but a few dry ones is available. A choice of taste I suppose. Service was very friendly and the courses were served in a timely fashion. It will not be my last visit.

Our benchmark is pistach/ pistacchio. I eat that all over the globe. If I leave most gelaterie in Rome, Palau, Salerno, Napoli, Pesaro, Milano etc etc out of competition than da Vinci has made the dramatic quantum leap to the first place in Amsterdam ( sorry Pisa, you were our favorite) of the Netherlands, Munich, London, New York, Barcellona....
Soft with a bite the pistache has found its ideal blend of creamy not overly sweet and they are generous, really generous!
Hope to find you like this next season or better, if possible at all!

The location of this restaurant is not the best, being at the side of the local Bus Station however the staff inside and the food make up for this. When we arrived the restaurant was pretty full and the staff told us they only had two tables for 6 available however the two of us could sit at one and if anyone came in they would share the table.
The staff here were great, very friendly and couldn't have been more helpful in telling us translation and in recommending dishes. The food itself was very good, nothing out of the ordinary but very tasty, well presented with good portion size. The bill was very reasonable and rounded off a pleasant evening.
