Tunja (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈtuŋha]) is a city on the Eastern Ranges of the Colombian Andes, in the region known as the Altiplano Cundiboyacense, 130 km northeast of Bogotá. In 2012 it had an estimated population of 181,407 inhabitants. It is the capital of Boyacá department and the Central Boyacá Province. Tunja is an important educational centre of well-known universities. In the time before the Spanish conquest of the Muisca, Tunja was called Hunza and was conquered by the Spanish conquistadors on August 20, 1537 upon zaque Quemuenchatocha and founded by the Spanish on August 6, 1539, exactly one year after the former southern capital Bacatá. The city hosts the most remaining Muisca architecture: Hunzahúa Well, Goranchacha Temple and Cojines del Zaque.

The best fried chicken in town.
The restaurant is a comida rapida so don't expect fancy service. It is known for its friend chicken with side dishes as you choose. The fried chicken was excellent, no batter just plain chicken and deep fried. One orders from the counter, then someone brings your order to your table. Handy location too, around the corner from the Cathedral and you can't beat the price. Highly recommended in Tunja.

If you’ve never had typical Colombian food, this is certainly an option. However, I was really disappointed that they didn't have any dishes particular to the Boyaca region. The other offerings from the Andean region of Colombia were nothing special. I tried the sancocho with chicken. The prices felt high, the same as I pay in Bogota which is a much more expensive city. A better option for me was Magnus, which is located down the hill from the San Francisco, and has a delicious and affordable lunch special (but more international style cuisine).

En cuanto a comida de mar es una muy buena opción en tunja, la cazuela de mariscos o la carbonara son bastante deliciosas, además te reciben con una entrada (fruta). Muy buen sitio

Onces lounge with traditional and original meals. Suitable for family, office or friends events for birthdays and special celebrations with a capacity of up to 60 people.
I frequented Tunja regularly over past six months, and always found myself at Madame Lili whenever I stopped by the city. This is the perfect place to do business or homework, go on a date, or meet up with friends for a drink or dinner.
Softly lit lights hang from a clear ceiling adorned in vines and vibrant paintings cover the walls while soft music plays throughout the café. The menu doesn't have a distinct style of cuisine or drink, but everything is impressive and satisfying. There you'll find coffee based beverages with or without liqueur, beer, wine, an array of lemonades, juices, and water filtered from the tap, appetizers, entrees, and many different desserts. They are also willing to do what they can to make your food choice vegetarian. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. It's always been an all-around good experience and time well spent at Madame Lili.
I highly recommend a visit if ever you find yourself in the quiet capital of Boyacá.

La arquitectura del centro comercial es novedosa. Hay varios restaurantes y algunos bares. Comimos en el primer piso en un local de arroces en el que el servicio fue muy bueno. El precio, además, era más que competitivo con el de los locales vecinos.
