we tried to get a reservation for a dinner table but unfortunately the were completely booked. on short notice, they offered us a table and afterwards we luckily took the trip.
it was amazing.
service, wine, food - the best combination i've had in a long time. this place is not uptight as many other top notch restaurants. we went to the cheese and wine rooms after dinner and even bought some cheese and bread for breakfast next morning.
we all agreed, that we never had any comparable tasting experience. the combinations of food and wine were so delicately arranged, that you forget any other 3 michelin star dinner you ever had.
thank you!!!

Been there in July 2009 and had the most fantastic experience in cuisine that was absolutely exhilarating. The goose prosciutto and the stuffed duck just melted. The drive up to the restaurant was scenic and the hospitality was great. The recommended wine went well with the served food. Going back there in June 2010 and obviously visiting Sale e Pepe in Stregna. Don't miss it if you pass that way.

Wwelcome, Our restaurant Topli val –a meeting place of the Mountains and the sea , the Alps and the Adriatic. Restaurant Topli val has 41 years tradition as a family run and become famous for fresh sea food. While enjoying the sea culinary specialities and selected Slovenian wines, you should not leave without trying the traditional dessert »Kobariški štruklji«. During the wormer months we have Terrace where we served meals. Family
Top season in Kobarid / Soča valley is something that we tourists may not understand. Crowded restaurants often close the doors as the expected waiting time would be more than an hour and they want to avoid dissapointments. In last decade(s), tourism boomed but the local tourism facilities obviously didn't follow entirely. I actually like it as it seems the nature remained same as it was.
Modri val was a bit different that evening. There was no chance to eat immediately and the waitress offered us to make a reservation for an hour later. A beer in the nearby bar and we were back.
We ate local sheep cheese with apple and honey as a starter, homemade potato gnocchi with game meat, veal viennese style and mixed grilled meat. The grilled trout was nicely filetted which doesn't happen often in an average Slovenian restaurant. Desserts: tiramisu, gibanica and superb "kobariski struklji" / kind of ravioli with dried fruit, nuts and cinnamon filling. Couvert included mini bruschettes wit fresh tomato & co. Could be bigger or two per person, but that was ok. It came quite quickly and kept us busy for a while.
The personnel was great, kind, communicative, professional and always available even on such an exhaustingly hot day.
Well done and thanks again.

I have been to this place a couple of tiimes with our broad family and never left dissapointed!
A nice and friendly coulpe that speaks tipical local slovenian dialect always makes the best of their hospitality and food that it served is excellent. There is nothing like a menu to choose from but the landlady is keen on proposing you all that she has prepared for the day.
During weekends Reservations obligatory or you might leave hungry! :-)

on the Soca river, a caravan park with restaurant; features crepes (they call them pancakes) for dinner and dessert and fantastic fresh trout. Too ban Slovenian is not one of the choices above
After a very disappointing dining experience at the nearby world renown Hisa Franko we happily soothed our mind and stomach in this lovely restaurant short walk from Kobarid.
Location is fantastic and food was delicious and more than good.
I say poor attitude, in fact host could be more friendly especially to waiter or owners that attended our table which was speechless and not interested at all in sharing a word, can't recall him greeting upon arriving nor upon leaving.

Trattoria alla posta is very good homy restaurant. We visit this restaurant at the end of the summer, the food was excellent - starters, soup, pasta, except the meat, which wasn't so good. The best - traditional potato soup, gnocchi with spinach and Deserts. What is surprising me every time in Italy, that you find excellent restaurant in small, "off the map" village. For those who loves slow food is more than recommended.

Good service (super friendly people that speak also Italian) in a slightly aged structure (i.e. Bathroom and room in general). As far as food goes...nothing that takes your breath away but I would say it is an ok food offer.

Family run hotel with a long tradition in hospitality business. --- from end of march till november opened every day ---
Was lost on the way and the kids were hungry so stopped at this reatuarant. Came up and stood breathless. The view, wow. You can see the river from the Terrace and its something. Then we looked at the menu and decided to go on the fish. Ordered the 1kg trout and the fish plate. Everything was soooo fresh and perfect taste. Just couldnt get enough of it. Go gongo.

We went to the restaurant and had a great experience, amazing food and especially had a good time thanks to Marko our waiter, who was extremely professional and welcoming.
BUT, when we went there the next night we encountered a different waiter who immediately told us that we are "way way late" and they are closed since 19:00 and rudely disregarded us. Needless to say that the advertised opening hours are until 21:00 and we got there at 20:15.
This left us with very bitter taste.
