Teignmouth (/ˈtɪnməθ/ TIN-məth) is a large seaside town, fishing port and civil parish in the English county of Devon, situated on the north bank of the estuary mouth of the River Teign about 14 miles south of Exeter. It had a population of 14,749 at the last census. In 1690, it was the last place in England to be invaded by a foreign power.

We arrived at our first choice restaurant in Teignmouth, The Colosseum, on a busy Saturday evening without previously booking. We were very politely informed that they were, unfortunately, fully booked and advised us of other places in the town where we might find space. We were just on our way out when the same person stopped us and said that they had a table for 8 who were arriving about 90 minutes later and she could seat us there, in a window, if we didn't mind. We jumped at the opportunity and were so glad we did.
We took options from the specials menu and were completely wowed by the food. The fresh Mackerel was succulent, sweet, light and melt in your mouth quality, fabulously cooked and presented. The Veal (not to everyones taste, but it is an Italian restaurant) was beautifully cooked and presented too. Along with the superior and considerate service, a complete dining experience never to be forgotten.
If you are in Teignmouth at any time and looking for a great dining experience in close but friendly surroundings with great staff and wonderful food then booking The Colosseum is an absolute must.

This is not the first time we have eaten here but the food and service have always been outstanding. If it could get better, I think it has. A warm log fire makes you feel at home (particularly in the winter!). The food then follows at a relaxed pace. Bread with a selection of butter and oils, duck starter was amazing, Deer for mains (I must try something different), desert to die for and eyes slightly bigger than stomach when cheese was added. Clearly considerable effort to source excellent local organic ingredients. Wine choice left to Ode to select - stunning and sensible. Please relocate closer to us!

Nick and his staff went above and beyond to host Teignmouth Sings choir members for our Christmas meal. Delicious food served all hot and with such generous portions. No complaints at all! Thank you Nick for a wonderful evening and allowing us to sing carols afterwards. A great time was had by all .

I can't fault last night's meal. It was expensive but certainly worth the money. Scallops were sparklingly fresh and beautifully presented. My beef fillet was served with an incredible beef shin/potato mix which sounds rather odd but actually had perfectly balanced flavours and textures. Apparently the beef stock in it takes days to make and that explains its velvety richness. Service was excellent including the solemn and professional assistance of the owners' two young sons. All in all a perfect experience.

went here with friends on a Fri eve, nice atmosphere , good quality food, the only down side was the main portions of pastas we had were quite meagre, & we thought £4 for a small bottle of lager was outrageous.

The Clifford Arms is owned by Dominic and Clare de Suys. It is a combination of the former and much loved Coffee Rush and the traditional approach of the Clifford Arms. Now operating as a continental style café bar serving from 9 am to 11 pm daily with a short closure between 4 and 5 pm to allow us to prepare for the evening. We serve breakfast and light lunches daily and dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings. Sunday lunch is also served and it is particularly popular when we host a jazz group. Monday nights are reserved for jazz (please see list or ring for dates and names of artistes)

We booked a large table of 26 for a significant birthday celebration. Dominic and his team were enormously helpful on the lead up to the occasion. And on the night itself- they were quite magnificent. A very accommodating and pleasant reception. Excellent homemade vegetable soup with subtle and interesting veg combination served piping hot with bread and butter.
Winter vegetable and goats cheese quiche was exquisite with a light green salad with drizzled dressing.
Most enjoyable, good service and excellent value for money.

The breakfast is that good we visited 3 times in a week after traveling from Dawlish Warren. Sampled the all day breakfast twice and the pancake option once, food always arrived hot and served with a smile. We sat out front overlooking the sea twice, but be WARNED if you don't keep an eye open the seagulls will have it..On our third visit the weather wasn't that clever so we asked if dogs were allowed inside and yes well behaved dogs are allowed inside. So if you want GOOD service, GOOD food and GOOD sea views then have something to eat at the Beachcomer.

Met up with an old friend for a pint, 9.30 Sunday evening. Maybe 10 locals (with some drink taken) in but very loud. Main activity seemed to be around 2 dogs and a ball being thrown around the bar. All very childish behaviour. Constant stream in and out of door by staff and clients to smoke. Some friction outside.
Not a comfortable or relaxing experience.
