The Duchy of Schleswig (Danish: Hertugdømmet Slesvig; German: Herzogtum Schleswig; Low German: Sleswig; North Frisian: Slaswik) was a duchy in Southern Jutland (Sønderjylland) covering the area between about 60 km north and 70 km south of the current border between Germany and Denmark. The territory has been divided between the two countries since 1920, with Northern Schleswig in Denmark and Southern Schleswig in Germany. The region is also called Sleswick in English.

Don't let the cheesy name fool you, the food here is excellent and the atmosphere quaint. Located down the cobblestone street from St Petri Dom, Happy Rancho serves perfectly grilled Holstein rib-eyes. Our waitress, Amina (I doubt I spelled it right, hope she will forgive me) was from Bosnia and a charming young lady. As a bonus, she introduced us to Julischka, a Croatian plum/pear liqueur that is sweet to the taste buds and warm to the body. An excellent choice for an evening out.
Note: Parking can be a challenge in this area - take a left just past the restaurant and follow the cobblestone street around the curve to find some parking at the end of the road before you hit the Rathaus square.

A wonderful and not overpriced meal spent with distant relatives who live nearby. I ate wolf fish for the first time, a wonderfully sweet fish with the texture of monkfish, served in a delicate hollandaise sauce with gorgeous parsley potatoes and seasonal vegetables. The starter, a crab bisque, was gorgeous. The wines were also excellent, and included regional German specialities. Highly recommended.

This is a really popular restaurant and was full. Glad we had booked in advance. What we ate was nice enough, pork on skewers, with rice, salad, and fries, but there was so much of it on the plate that we were both over-faced. Sometimes, too much food on your plate can really put you off! Serving the food on a central dish so you can help yourself would be much better. Or maybe we are in the minority?

We don't normally eat at hotel restaurants......
Arrived late on the first night and went straight to the restaurant, getting one of the last tables. Glad we changed first as it was a comfortably formal setting. The menu was good but prices were more than we would normally pay----until we got to the end of the meal, when we we realized that they were very fair, considering the quality/helpings/service/huge salad bar/table decorations/linens etc.
There were lots of non-residents eating there as well--which is a good sign.
We had only booked for two nights but added on another 'cos of the breakfasts/suppers and lovely hotel room

we lunched here with family friends and were delighted at the service and quality of the food. mainly fish unsurprisingly in this old fishing village. wines and food alike were good and adequate variety. if you like eels then this is the place, smoked, grilled etc. wonderful.

Our second visit to Schleswig in 5 years included our second visit to Patio. We were not disappointed. Portions are generous. Service is attentive even when the restaurant is busy. (Reservations are a good idea since it seems like it usually is.) Our group didn't stray from the Schnitzel and brat Kartoffeln (so good) with a beer or 2 and we were satisfied again. There's an outdoor patio too if the evening isn't too cool.
We hope to return on our next visit!

This is a very nice restaurant and it seems to be a pretty popular one. On a Saturday night it was full and quite a few people who didn't have Reservations were turned away. We opted to sit outside despite looming rainclouds and the very pleasant waitresses found us a table indoors when the weather became a bit more threatening. We had excellent antipasti to start with followed by very good pasta from a wide selection; there are also fish and meat main courses. The interior is very jolly, with tables in a series of interconnecting rooms. And all very reasonably priced.

God only knows how they got planning permission for this bonkers 26 storey building in an otherwise low rise picturesque town. Anyhoo, luckily they did cos it affords you amazing views from the panoramic restaurant at the top. Great value 12euro three course set menu, very friendly staff (tho not much English spoken so bring your dictionary or phrase book!). Food is solid decent German stuff. Very retro feel (black forest gateau for pudding!) which probably isn't deliberate but adds to the charm.

Having spent some time at the Viking museum, we arrived in Schleswig looking for refreshment. This cafe fitted the bill perfectly. Food was freshly prepared, and the Kuchen looked amazing! Service was friendly, although I can imagine it would suffer when busy.

We stopped to have a beer and since the view over the water was so great we decided to stay for dinner too. The delicious fish soup was listed as a starter but was huge and very satisfying. We also had a fish dish that was very fresh. Spent a great couple of hours enjoying the food and views.
